Cong. Mike Pence: This Will NOT Stand (Video)

Congressman Mike Pence (R-IN) said on MSNBC Wednesday morning, that the newly passed Obamacare bill will raise taxes so much that people will lose jobs. Additionally, he stated that this will not stand and that the fight is not over!

"We have to stop this continuous growth of government", he continued. "We don't need to answer this with more government and more debt...this is about freedom and the American people will push back hard".

NC GOP Calls On Roy Cooper to Challenge Obamacare

 NCGOP Chairman Tom Fetzer called on North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper to join with numerous other states in challenging the constitutionality of the recently passed health care bill.

“The federal government has taken an unprecedented and unwarranted step into the lives of North Carolinians,” Fetzer said.  “North Carolinians are overwhelmingly opposed to this usurpation of power, and it is incumbent upon state leaders, most notably the Attorney General, to do everything in their power to protect our citizens’ right to make their own healthcare decisions.  I call on Attorney General Cooper to file suit on the grounds that the mandate requiring every citizen to purchase health insurance is not a power granted to the federal government by the Constitution.”

Fourteen states are taking similar action:  Florida, South Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Texas, North Dakota, South Dakota, Washington, Idaho, Alabama, Nebraska, Utah, Oklahoma, and Missouri.

In January, Fetzer joined with Senate Republican Leader Phil Berger and House Republican Leader Skip Stam in announcing the Health Care Protection Act (HCPA), a legislative initiative that will protect North Carolinians from the federal mandate.  Earlier this week, Berger reiterated his support of the HCPA. (See earlier post.)

Berger Urges Cooper to Join Suit Challenging Constitutionality of New Health Care Law

 NC Republican  leader, state Senator Phil Berger  (R-Rockingham), sent a letter to North Carolina attorney general Roy Cooper.  He urged Cooper, a Democrat, to join thirteen other Attorneys General across the country in filing a lawsuit to challenge the constitutionality of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.  The constitutional challenge rests on the argument that the individual mandate by the federal government to citizens forcing them to purchase health care is an unconstitutional overreach of the authority granted to the federal government by the Commerce Clause.

 Senator Berger stated:

“We all must do our part to protect North Carolina’s citizens from this unprecedented and unconstitutional expansion of federal power being handed down in the form of health care mandates.  North Carolina citizens should have the right to make their own health care decisions protected and only the Attorney General can file suit on behalf of their interests.  I hope that Attorney General Cooper will do his part to see that the rights and freedoms of North Carolinians are safeguarded at the state level.”

Schlafly: Health care vote exposes the myth of the "pro-life Democrat"

 Phyllis Schlafly, president and founder of the conservative grassroots public policy organization Eagle Forum, made the following remarks after the public announcement that formerly pro-life Democrat Bart Stupak (D-MI) will cast a "yes" vote for the Senate health care bill. (The bill passed the house Sunday evening and was signed into law on Monday by President Obama.)

"It is naïve for any elected official, especially one who describes himself as ‘pro-life,' to expect that a promise to issue an Executive Order that reasserts the intentions of the Hyde Amendment will be fulfilled by the most pro-abortion president to ever sit in the White House. Perhaps Mr. Stupak and his fellow pro-life Democrats forget that President Obama's first Executive Order was the repeal of the Mexico City Policy to allow for international funding of abortion."

"Not only would an Executive Order be rendered meaningless in the face of Congress passing legislation which actively provides for the massive expansion and funding of abortion services, but anyone who doubts the abortion tsunami which awaits this bill becoming law lives in a fantasy world."
 
"Barack Obama has lined every existing federal agency with the most dedicated pro-abortion ideologues, and we know that he will continue this pattern of pro-abortion appointments when it comes time for him to fill the over-100 bureaucracies created to administer his socialized health care program." 

"Any formerly pro-life Democrat who voted ‘Yes' on the Senate health care bill tonight will be forever remembered as being among the deciding votes which facilitated the largest expansion of abortion services since Roe v. Wade."

"Mr. Stupak and his Democrat followers have now clarified that you cannot be pro-life and be a Democrat. If   abortion was truly their biggest issue, they wouldn't willfully align themselves with the Party of Death."

"This vote has exposed the myth of the ‘pro-life Democrat.' With this single vote, the Democratic Party has divided our nation into the Democrat Party of Death and the Republican Party of Life, and future elections will never be the same."

NC AFP's Dallas Woodhouse At Saturday Rally in Washington (Video)

 North Carolina's own Dallas Woodhouse, made a short but powerful speech on Capitol Hill, Saturday. Dallas is president of the North Carolina Chapter of Americans for Prosperity, one of a number of organizations sponsoring the rally, which was aimed at stopping passage of Obamacare, known to liberals as health care reform.

It was an exciting, though L O N G day for this blogger, but well worth the trip.  More posts and videos coming soon, so keep checking this space.  We are uploading them as fast as time allows.

Last Stand Against Health Care Reform - The Rally

 On Saturday, your blogger, along with hundreds of others from North Carolina, and thousands from across the nation, loaded up on buses, planes, trains, and automobiles, and made our collective ways to our nation's Capitol.  It was the most beautiful day we had seen all year and the weather there was much better than it was in Raleigh, KCC later discovered.

Because your blogger had to carry everything she brought, she could not live blog the event from her laptop.  Thus, she posted updates on her Twitter site.  Go here to read them.  

You do not need to have a Twitter account to read them.  Just scroll back to Saturday's posts to see what KCC wrote and thought.  KCC's twitter account is not quite as "family friendly" as is her blog.  :-)

 North Carolinians Storm the Capitol

For a small fee of $25, North Carolineans could ride one of about ten buses that were organized by the NC Chapter of Americans for Prosperity.  From Raleigh, the trip was relatively quick and our group arrived precisely at noon at the South Lawn of the Capitol.  Already, speakers were rousing the crowd and masses were gathering.  

Buses departed from every part of the Ole' North State and were ready to rally.  People made phone calls on the way, and were advised as to the polite way to get their points across to opposing Members of Congress.

Lamestream Media Says "Don't Come into Washington"

 What should NOT have amazed this blogger, was that  the "lamestream" media was actually telling people NOT to come into the District.  The traffic was too bad, they stated. They did their best to keep our numbers down, but it did not work.

 Indeed there were numerous rallies going on that day.  The Communist Party USA was supposed to be rallying somewhere, and an anti-war group took over Lafayette Square, across from the White House.

Your blogger stood beside a retired New York City police captain for a few minutes.  He was well-versed in crowd counting and estimated the group to be between 65,000 - 70,000.  Meanwhile, the "lamestream" media was calling the crowd at only 1,500 - 2,000.  They were declaring that Americans were happy with the bill and wanted it to pass.  Even MSNBC disagreed and declared that 60% of Americans were unhappy with the bill.  Your blogger is certain that MSNBC vastly low balled the number,  but they were right that most Americans opposed this bill.

Chris Marie Farr, grassroots director of the NC AFP told riders of one of the Raleigh buses, that she had no idea what was actually going on, as she'd been buried in logistics in getting people together for 48 straight hours!

The U.S. House is scheduled to vote on the "reconciliation" bill on Sunday, March 21. This bill includes abortion funding and must not pass.

 It's time to RALLY.  This time, the Americans for Prosperity, with other groups, is leading the charge to Capital Hill to let our Members of Congress know exactly where we stand bill ironically known as OBAMACARE.   It's ironic because, this blogger feels as if Obama does not care.

 You will need to bring a lunch and drinks for the ride to DC. There is a bathroom on each of our chartered buses. We will also make restroom stops. Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and walking shoes. It is necessary to walk several blocks. 

Hand-made signs are encouraged for the rally but keep in mind they may be lost if you go into any of the   buildings. Bring some cash for a fast food dinner on the way home. You will get back to your car late Saturday night.

Reader Mail: How Free is Free for Healthcare? by Mudd Larkins

Katy, 

This here is Mudd Larkins of the famous One Eyed Betty and the Back Porch Boys.  I just wanted to tell you about my 3rd cousin JT Duncan.  He writ me this letter about how his maw and all the Duncans is going to be voting for anybody that will get this healthcare bill passed. 

 I know folks is wanting to stop this here bill, but JT says everything is going to be free.  They aint charging for any doctorin things.  On top of that my favorite itch medicin will also be free. 

 They was told by some city folks that they could only visit the doctor for those women's test, you know mamographs, once every five years or so.  Well heck I don't think ma Duncan has ever had one of those mamographs anyway.  Sounds to me like some big city insurance company trying to get more money.  

Katy tell me true, is this thing really gonna be free?  

Only free thing I ever got was when that church lady, Miss Botaw, left the room and we was on her couch we dug the pennies out from under the cushions.  We aint very learned, but we can't seem to understand how the government can cover 30 million new folks and it aint gonna cost us anything.  

Boy they must have a big couch up there in Washington.  You know if they can give free doctorin to everyone I guess they could just give everyone a house, a truck, and a bunch of vittles.  JT says if we vote those people back in they will get us the house and we can pick what color truck we want. JT wants a red truck, but ma says he can't have it cause that color makes the dogs sick and they will mess up the truck. 

Gotta go write some new music.  Betty gets mad if she don't have some new songs.  She's a hoping to get a new glass eye, cause what she has got now is pre exsisting.  Hope she don't want a new leg too.

You make some valid points.  I'm sorry to say I don't think you have a free truck coming and your cousin, JT, needs to have his head examined.  It won't be any time soon, as the waits in socialist health care systems are quite slow.  Give my best to One Eyed Betty.  I hope she doesn't need that new leg, either...for everyone's sake!

North Carolina is one of the founding states of AFP with more joining each year.  Let's show that we are here for them again.  So many of KCC's fellow conservatives join her and her husband at their annual summit entitled "Defending the American Dream".  Last year, NC took up (at least five bus loads), with many more people driving or flying separately.

Phyllis Tells It Like It Is (Video)

 Mrs. Phyllis Schlafly, author, speaker, and trail blazer, spoke Wednesday at CPAC.  Your blogger captured most of her talk via her digital camera.  (Please forgive the occasional shaky image.)

Mrs. Schlafly is a heroine of your blogger and has been since she took on 1972 Democratic Presidential candidate, George McGovern in a debate at her alma mater in the late 1980s.   She virtually slaughtered him on stage at Jones Auditorium, on the Meredith College campus.

Many of KCC's classmates complained at the time, about Schlafly, saying "we aren't getting an education to stay home and cook dinner". They clearly didn't realize how educated that the lady on stage was.

 Apparently her words did resonate, however, as most of those same women are proud stay-at-home moms today.  In general, most are happily married, and providing their children a home with a two parent family (a mom and a dad).   

Hearing Mrs. Schalfy's remarks was a true breath of fresh air.  It seems as if social issues are taboo these days. In North Carolina, people are talking only of economic issues and are kicking social issues to the curb.  

She was pointed,  and explained how she built coalitions to achieve her goals.  She also complained about the "Rockefeller Republicans",  known by some as "RINOS" or Republicans in name only. (KCC doesn't like the term RINOS. She prefers the term, moderate Republicans.)

Issues Divide NC Republicans

In North Carolina over the past twenty-five years,  one thing that has traditionally divided the Republican party is this failure to address certain key social issues. 

 Issues like two parent families, traditional marriage, and overturning Roe v. Wade should be addressed by candidates running for legislative office.  In this blogger's experiences, the typical "religious conservative" will stay home and not vote if their needs are not addressed. While KCC does not agree with this tactic, she does acknowledge that it does occur. (Your blogger has had to go to the polls and "hold her nose to vote" many times, rather than just not vote.)

While these "economic only" conservatives do have many valued points upon which we agree, it is imperative that GOP candidates at least "throw a bone" to the social conservatives, to keep them coming out.  To get elected, our cause needs every single voter it can get, without sacrificing major principles.

Wishing You An Unhappy Birthday - Stimulus One Year Later

 The 80s song by the alternative group "The Smiths" comes to mind today, when thinking of the money President Barack Obama  poured down the proverbial drain he signed the so-called Stimulus bill, which has mortgaged the future of our children and grandchildren. KCC's young son doesn't know it, but he'll spend his life working to pay it off.

Young Bobby is already angry at Obama for cutting NASA and the American space program.  As his mommy and daddy have explained, the Chinese will now beat us back to the moon.  Bobby dreams of being an astronaut and KCC hopes it is not already too late for him.  In fact, he's ready to head for Pluto tomorrow, when called upon.

 Meanwhile, Congressman Mike Pence (R-Indiana, right), chairman of the U.S. House Republican Conference, told Congress his own opinions about the Spendulus bill, on the eve of the CPAC 2010 conference:

"One year later, one thing is clear: the stimulus bill has failed.  One year later, not one net job has been created as unemployment rose from 7.6 percent to nearly 10 percent nationwide. Mr. President, millions of Americans are asking, 'where are the jobs?'

"It is time for Washington to take a new approach to get this economy moving again based on time-honored solutions:  fiscal discipline in Washington, D.C. and immediate tax relief for working families, small businesses and family farms. Let's put American families first, set aside the big government schemes on health care and energy and take decisive action to get this economy growing again."

Lawson To Enter NC 4th Congressional District Primary

 In a surprising twist to an already crowded  North Carolina's 4th Congressional District primary, 2008 GOP nominee, B.J. Lawson, has committed to entering the field. 

 In a statement released on Tuesday, he wrote:

"Recent polling data suggests 2010 will be much different than 2008.  Specifically, 72% of North Carolina Republicans say they are "definitely voting" in 2010, while only 67% of Democrats say the same; furthermore, our district's turnout was greatly influenced by the Obama campaign. Our commitment to challenge Price has been further fueled by recent upsets across the country, numerous requests from our grassroots volunteers, and the stubborn refusal of our government to do the right thing even when confronted with overwhelming public opposition."

 Your blogger agrees completely.  Additionally, Lawson (left) stated that his campaign is focused on five issues:

1. Economic freedom to create our own jobs and businesses 
2. Health care freedom that returns medicine to patients and providers 
3. Zero tolerance for bailouts and corporate welfare 
4. A federal government that operates within the Constitution 
5. Honest and transparent government 

The official announcement and filing will come in Raleigh on Wednesday.  

Analysis

KCC feels that this shakes up the field a bit.  Lawson, is well-known throughout the 4th district as he won a bruising primary in 2008 and went on to face Price in the general election.  Though Congressman David Price won re-election easily in the gerrymandered district drawn just for him, conventional wisdom tells us that every member of Congress is vulnerable in 2010.  Anti-Obama backlash is high this year, as the President's missteps are following him where ever he goes.  

Lawson should now easily move into second place, behind front-runner Frank Roche and ahead of other challengers Greg Dority and the little known, non-serious George Hutchins.  

Roche has been in the race for more than a year but with Lawson's national fund-raising connections from the Republican Liberty Caucus, he should easily be able to out-raise everyone in the field, eventually moving ahead of Roche.  

Many 4th District and NC GOP activists only became involved after the election of President Barrack Obama angered and fired them up. Most of these might not remember Lawson and but they do know Roche.  Lawson, must now reach out to these new believers and share his story.

Price can always be counted on to vote the wrong way on any issue for a fiscal conservative.  In a year when the issues are tilted towards fiscal and financial, Price has never met a tax increase he didn't like.  But, he knows how to put a good spin on the issue.  

History from Your Blogger's Memory

Price was first elected to Congress in 1986, defeating then- Congressman and  former UNC Athletic Director Bill Cobey. Cobey went on to become NCGOP State Chairman and a candidate for Governor.  Cobey had defeated long-serving Democrat Congressman Ike Andrews in 1984, after Andrews received a DUI. (Your blogger volunteered for Cobey as a College Republican at the time.)

In 1994, in an off-year election during former President Bill Clinton's first term, former Raleigh Police Chief Fred Heineman surprisingly defeated Price. (The district then covered most, if not all of Raleigh, and was more Republican friendly.) 

The Heineman campaign had already scheduled to turn off all but one telephone line, beginning the day after the election, and reporters, volunteers, and well-wishers could not get through.  The Chief, as he insisted on being called, was as shocked as anyone.  Sadly, Price returned to Congress two years later and has kept his seat since.

However, anti-Obama sentiments are much stronger than any anti-Clinton feelings ever were.  If the GOP keeps working hard and rallies the faithful, Congress is ours for the taking.  However, KCC feels we must have no more "restroom incidents" or mistresses in Argentina!

Congressman Price is a fixture on the local Chamber of Commerce circuit.  During this blogger's tenure at the Cary Chamber of Commerce, she wrote their newsletter as part of her position as Director of Public and Governmental Affairs.  

Anytime KCC said anything negative about Rep. Price, his office was on the phone, wanting to schedule a speaking engagement, which he, naturally received.  

Price is always accessible but we have no doubt that the Republican who defeats him will be, as well!

Thursday, before President Barry Obama lectured the Republican Caucus Friday, House GOP leaders held a press conference to discuss their positive solutions to the problems our nation is now facing.  View it below.

NC AFP's "Hands Off My Health Care" Hosts 1500

Though local TV stations may have only credited the rally with gathering 1000 people, local numbers guru David Burton counted at least 1500 people at Wednesday's Hand's Off My Health care Rally, in Raleigh's Kerr Scott Building.  

Sponsored by the North Carolina Chapter of Americans for Prosperity, and lead by State Chairman,  Dallas Woodhouse, people came out to show the media, their members of Congress, and anyone else who would listen, that they don't want the United States government taking over their health care.

"Anything that government gets it's hands on, it screws up, I sure don't want them messing with my health care", one attendee told your blogger, before running off to join the rallying his message.  

In a rousing talk before President Obama's speech, which was shown live to the group, Woodhouse (left) urged all participants to send in pre-printed petitions to show their lack of support for Obama's health care plan.  Then, he urged everyone to contact their member of Congress and both U.S. Senators to tell them to oppose any legislation that imposes greater government control over health care.

Your blogger took a few photos of the crowd.  She was especially pleased to see so many fellow activists with the Wake County Republican Party.

Hello Katy:

Something needs to be done to discredit and turn the American people against the Obama-Congressional Democratic agenda.

 

I believe an aggressive campaign that defines the Obama-Democratic agenda as “Not the American Way” would be an effective and succinct way to defeat their un-American plans. It would be a simple way to contrast their socialist agenda with the conservative American agenda that favors individual Americans as opposed to a bigger, more powerful government. It could help change public opinion against their agenda, their party and their candidates in 2010 and 2012. And it would provide a unified rallying cry that all conservatives could get behind and support.

 

EXAMPLES:

 

1. Bailouts For Corporations Is Not The American Way.

 

2. Earmarks (Pork Barrel Spending) For Politicians’ Special Projects Is Not The American Way.

 

3. Imposing Socialist Healthcare On The American People Through The Budget, Not By The Legislative Process, Is Not The American Way.

 

4. Imposing Excessively High Taxes On The American People Is Not The American Way.

 

5. Not Protecting American Citizens Against Terrorism Is Not The American Way.

 

6. Making The Federal Budget A Higher Priority Than The Individual Budgets of American Citizens Is Not The American Way.

 

7. Obama’s firing of General Motors Chief Executive Rick Wagoner Is Not The American Way.

 

If you agree this campaign has merit, I hope you will use the “Not The American Way” slogan at every opportunity.

 

I have no proprietary claims on this slogan. My only desire is for the Obama-Democratic agenda to be defeated and to be replaced by proven conservative principles.
