Are you tired of listening to the bickering between "Kid Cal" Cunningham and "Lucky Elaine" Marshall?
This writer is ready for them to both go away. If her beloved summer weren't upon us, your blogger would say "let's just get November here and be done with it". However, this blogger plans a nice summer at the beach and she doesn't want to miss that.
But she is ready for their runoff to pass us by, so that we can get down to the business of re-electing Senator Richard Burr. He didn't start out as the most conservative Senator we could have possibly have, but he's made up for it these past four years. He realized he didn't just represent the Winston-Salem area anymore, as he did while serving in Congress. We conservatives from Eastern North Carolina have darn strong standards and if a politician is going to please us, he's got to make my "Jessecrat" neighbors happy. Additionally, the Party is leaning more conservative now, statewide.
Out Of Nowhere - Lucky Elaine
The previously unknown Elaine Marshall took office in 1997 by defeating NASCAR legend Richard Petty. Petty looked unbeatable in the race but didn't as perform well on a North Carolina highway. He forgot that one cannot bump the car in front if one feels its not proceeding to his liking. The incident went viral, put him the slow lane and right out of the race. She's held the office ever since.
Now, Marshall wants to be your Senator. The thought of her standing side-by-side with Kay Hagan simply sickens this blogger.
Kid Cal
But what is worse is the idea of the youthful, charismatic kid Cal, taking the seat formerly held by Senator Jesse Helms. Cal is young, and liberal. Extremely liberal. The term Chapel Hill liberal even comes to mind. He got his start on the UNC Student Council and local UNC grads in the conservative movement do not remember him fondly. He got in the race and quit when he didn't get the backing of national Democrats. Then, he got back in, when those 'crats came back around. But, it wasn't enough to beat Lucky Elaine so off to the runoff they go.
Please get out and work for U.S. Senator Richard Burr. We need a big turnaround in Congress and making things right at home, is the first step.
