They've become a national joke. Yet they reside in Chapel Hill and call North Carolina home.
Our once great nation was sadly introduced to Johnny Boy Edwards some years ago, when he won a huge award for a little girl who was stuck on a drain on a swimming pool and won her millions of dollars for her severe medical injuries. Laws were changed to prevent further such instances.
Later, he left his legal practice behind and ran for the US Senate. With his face, that hair, and his award-winning charm, he was considered to be a rising star in the national Democrat party. Sadly, North Carolina fell for it all and elected him.
Fast forward to 2010. His career is in shambles and one would think he would do the decent thing and just go back to practicing law and stay out of the public eye. Apparently Mr. Edwards just loves the spotlight too much.
Recently, the world not only discovered that he had an extra-marital affair with a former campaign videographer, while his wife is dying from cancer, but also that he fathered a child from the ... hookup, for lack of a better word.
Just last week, Mr. Edwards announced that indeed, he finally would live his life privately. Within days, however, he chartered a plane and was bound for earthquake-ravaged Haiti, a place that needed him, about as much as North Carolina does. To add insult to injury, he returned the next day, with a planeload of injured Haitians, apparently promising them medical care in the US.
This blogger certainly hopes that Mr. Edwards will dip into his vast fortune and pay the medical bills of the sad people who he has brought here, and if he does, it is certainly admirable. If he expects the US government to do it, that's another matter entirely.
KCC feels sure he had his staff passing out press packets as they all disembarked onto the tarmac. Your blogger wishes Edwards' goodwill flight had been carried out in private, rather than in front of banks of microphones, if he truly meant what he said about being private.
Now, CNN via WRAL (who has a love fest with the man) is reporting that Elizabeth Edwards has finally had enough and that she and John are separating. While this blogger feels terribly sorry for her plight with cancer, and we hope that she may die in some comfort and piece of mind, KCC wishes that she had not "pulled a Hilary" and stood by her man this long.
Bless you Mrs Edwards. We wish you had saved us from you husband. We wish we had never heard of John Edwards.
