NC State University College Republican Chairman, Ches McDowell, issued the following statement:
“While the Democrat leadership in the General Assembly takes every opportunity to cut the University’s budget and Democrat Governor Bev Perdue is forcing all University employees to take a pay cut; the last thing we need to do is pay a former first lady $850,000 for five years of superfluous work. Every family in this state has to make cuts to their family budget to pay for basic needs - the University needs to follow their example and cut the dead weight. Why cut classes students need for graduation requirements and faculty positions when we could save $850,000 over five years by eliminating one made up position? Regardless of her alleged qualifications or where her salary comes from, her unessential position is a bad example for the citizens of this great state. Mary Easley needs to do the honorable thing and resign.”
