Regarding the recent RNC elections, reader Kent Misegades submitted the following:
That's what I love about our party. Lots of candidates and a real battle. Democrats would never have tolerated such an election, using a rubber stamp instead.
I have watched Michael Steele fairly closely the past couple of years. He has been a courageous Conservative in a very liberal state of MD.
He has withstood jeers from blacks and been pelted by Oreo cookies. I'd like to see most white GOP members stand as tough when under fire. Steele is a Black catholic, very rare, which says something about his conservative convictions. He also believes the GOP needs to use more electronic means to reach voters in the future
I have encouraged a number of GOP leaders to go on the offensive regarding race relations in February, Black history month. Attached is something I put together. It underscores the long history of African-American Republicanism in our country, which includes one well-known member, Martin Luther King, Jr. We need to get this message out and stop being afraid to carry the timeless, good news of Conservatism into the poorest communities and liberal strongholds.
