Actress Raven Simone has been in Charlotte and Winston-Salem for the past two days, posing for pictures and handing out Obama T-shirts INSIDE early voting locations. This is a big problem and a clear violation of non-partisan activity rules inside the polls.
If you see such activity going on, please call 919-828-6423, ext. 146. This is the NC GOP headquarters' extension to their legal department. They are trying to stop illegal activity at the polls.
Additionally, keep an ear out for news about concerts for Obama. Last weekend, 70s singer James Taylor came to Asheville for a free concert. Those who wanted to attend had to pick up tickets at a series of locations: some of those locations were early voting centers. (Katy's Conservative Corner is always interested in tips on illegal activities.)

Business was booming Tuesday afternoon and evening, at the GOP booth (left) at the North Carolina State Fair in Raleigh. As reported yesterday by reader and contributor, Kent Misegades, people were lined up six to eight deep to get stickers and t-shirts of GOP candidates.
Todd Batchelor, member relations director of the North Carolina Republican Party, told your blogger that they had sold more than 650 McCain-Palin t-shirts in six hours, as fast as they could sell them. "We hope to get more on order tomorrow to meet the demand," he added.
Michelle Weaver (left), wife of House challenger, Eric Weaver, worked the booth, along with daughter Anna. It was clear that neither had had the chance to sit down all day.
Meanwhile, over at the North Carolina Democratic Party booth (photos, at end of post) crowds were trickling in, with booth workers asking, "are you registered to vote" to everyone who asked for a sticker or handout.
The booth run by a Ronnie Ansley worker had zero traffic, and your blogger had to feel a little sorry for the gentleman working it. He seemed so lonely. Ansley is challenging Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler for his seat on the Council of State.
The fair seemed to be extremely well-run, though ride tickets seemed high at three dollars per person, for most rides. Your blogger isn't much on rides, but since this was her son's first year to really enjoy the fair, she and her husband rode many of the kiddie rides with him.
The animal exhibits were great and it helped that we all were wearing NC State University clothing. The vet students showed some love to KCC's little boy and let him pet the cow he was begging to touch. Kids dressed in other school clothing didn't get the same treatment. KCC ran into arch-conservative, and tax-cutting hero, former State Rep. Russell Capps (R-Wake). He was one of the lucky few to sport one of the much sought after McCain-Palin T-shirts, and and his wife looked snazzy with her McCain-Palin sticker.
All North Carolinians owe Capps a huge debt of gratitude after serving us so well in the North Carolina State House. Sadly, he lost his seat to an Obama wanna-be, Rep. Ty Harrell (D-Wake), in the last election, but Capps continues to lead the Wake County Taxpayers Association.
Harrell, like all Democrats in the General Assembly, takes his orders from liberal Speaker Joe Hackney and votes how he is told. That's why we must elect a new legislature, a conservative General Assembly!
Go see the fair, be a kid again, and wear your GOP gear. If you don't, you'll feel out of place. While you're there, be sure to thank every man and woman in uniform (military, law enforcement, EMS, Fire, etc) for his or her service. Like the Airman in the photo at left, they don't get thanked enough.
Kudos to Labor Commissioner Cherie Berry for making sure the rides are safe and to Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler for running a ship-shape state fair!

My wife and I worked from 9-1 in the GOP booth at the Fair today. We had so many people lined up for McCain/Palin stickers that we blocked the aisles. We ran out of stickers by 12:30. They sold 300 T-shirts this weekend at $10 and had people lined up 70 deep for one, according to Todd Batchelor. They are to get another 350 Tuesday.
One of the first kind of stickers to disappear was the one that said "Democrat for McCain/Palin". Many folks told me they are lifelong Dems but there's no way they would vote for Obama. Many who came by the GOP booth reported that things were pretty quiet by comparison at the Dems booth.
Of course, I doubt that the Fair attracts many of the brie-and-chablis Obama crowd from Chapel Hill, so McCain's popularity isn't too surprising at the Fair, something that attracts people who work hard for a living.
I am sure that the Dems - always whistling past the graveyard - will sniff that the rednecks who like the Fair will of course not vote for a black man. We'll see who has the last laugh - I am optimistic of McCain's chances and almost sure that we'll have a Republican as our next Governor.

The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) is a radical, leftist organization that has had a close association with Sen. Barack Obama for years (which Obama is now trying to deny).
At the annual Eagle Council last month, John Fund spoke to us about this group and their pattern of voter registration fraud. Mr. Fund's warnings are rapidly coming true as we're seeing in the daily headlines. So far, ACORN had been caught registering Mickey Mouse, the lineup of the Dallas Cowboys (in Nevada), felons and one fellow 72 times.
There are numerous examples. The FBI is now investigating ACORN, as are many state attorney generals. ACORN has offices in Charlotte, Durham and Raleigh and with our state now up for grabs, we have to assume that they will try to create chaos on Election Day with the call to "count every vote."
Expect lots of voter registrations to be turned in at the last minute, as well as ineligible people (felons, illegal aliens, out-of-state residents and dead people) showing up to vote on Election Day. So what can we do?
1. Call your County Elections Board and make sure they have Republican judges. If not, get people (Republicans) to volunteer to be a judge, especially in areas that are highly Democrat like Durham, Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Asheville and sections of Charlotte.
2. Volunteer yourself and get other people to be poll watchers for their precinct. Call your local Republican Party or the State GOP for more details.
3. Call your county GOP immediately if you suspect voter fraud on Election Day or during early voting. Give them as many details as possible and take photos if you can.

It's a Sunday evening for us, and we usually take Sundays off from politics. Instead, we watch the NFL, Entourage, and the Amazing Race, if the weather is bad. If the weather is good, we are outside, doing something.
So, your blogger completely missed it when the news hit Sunday morning, that her FORMER hero, Colin Powell endorsed Obama. Sure, she didn't like how Powell advised President George Bush 41 to pull out of Iraq and not go into Baghdad and get Saddam Hussein, forcing President George Bush 43 to do it years later. But, she forgave him and wished him well in his retirement.
Imagine her surprise when she found out via Don Irvine's Twitter feed, that Powell had left the GOP camp. Sure, he was always more of a moderate, but who woulda thunk he would go this far? Has the General finally lost his marbles?

Don is the head of one of my favorite conservative groups, Accuracy in Media, and your blogger had the pleasure of meeting him at the Defending the American Summit in Washington, last weekend. (The Summit was hosted by the conservative, non-partisan, group, Americans for Prosperity.) KCC learned so much from him.
Kyle Suggs of Greensboro (left, with conservative Michael Steele), wrote a scathing message to Powell on Powell's Facebook fan page. Suggs is a conservative activist and a leader his his community and statewide, and he was also on the AFP trip to Washington. He works tirelessly for our cause.
We need more folks like Kyle Suggs and Don Irvine and fewer like Colin Powell.
North Carolina Republican Party Chairman Linda Daves released the following statement in response to the Cumberland County Board of Elections expanding hours at two additional polling sites specifically for the purpose of aiding Senator Barack Obama’s rally in Fayetteville today. (“Cumberland County adds two new polling sites,” Fayetteville Observer, 10/18/08)
“It is a gross distortion of the voting process for the Democrat-controlled Cumberland County Board of Elections to expand the number of early polling locations at the last minute to accommodate Senator Obama’s campaign rally. Their action makes the voting process an extension of a partisan political rally and that is clearly inappropriate.
“With the many unanswered questions surrounding Senator Obama’s extensive relationship with ACORN along with the ongoing investigations in numerous states into the organization by election officials and by the FBI, the North Carolina Republican Party finds it astounding that additional voting locations were made available at an ‘emergency meeting’ without adequate notice to the general public. Barack Obama will say or do anything to win.
“To be clear, the North Carolina Republican Party and the people of North Carolina are not against the expansion of polling hours or locations. However, North Carolinians are outraged when it is done at the last minute on an ‘emergency’ basis for the sole purpose of benefitting Senator Obama’s campaign.”
Jerry Meek, Chairman of the North Carolina Democratic Party, is pushing their liberal judges hard. We can't let these Democrats win. North Carolina needs judges with North Carolina conservative values.
Voting a straight party ticket WILL NOT cast a vote for any judge. You must vote for them individually, by name.
A few years ago, the Democrats grew tired of Republicans winning all the statewide judicial races, so they did what they do best, they changed the rules!
The Democrat-controlled North Carolina General Assembly decided to best hurt Republicans by taking the "Rs" and "Ds" from the names of those running for the judiciary in our state. People naturally felt that Republicans were more "law and order" so they gravitated to our judges. Now, people don't have that opportunity.
Since the chance, more and more liberal judges have been getting elected. That's why your help is more important than ever. After you finish voting for all the other races, go down to the very bottom (of a long ballot) and look for the judges. There will be both state and local judges on the ballot.

Your blogger has not watched any of the previous 2008 Presidential debates. They are usually dry, Obama skirts the issues, and McCain has done nothing but disappoint.
Not so on Thursday evening. The national debate drew audiences from every corner of all 50 states and it was McCain's final change to show the nation what a maverick he really is. We watched with the Wake County Republicans, who gathered at the Raleighwood Theater.
McCain mentioned Obama's encounter with plumber, named Joe, who wanted to buy the business e'd worked for but saw he would pay much higher taxes under Obama's plan. He was trying to his realize American Dream but Obama told him that he should "spread the wealth around" in the oft-quoted socialist remark. See previous post, here.
McCain would help him keep his taxes low,and added that he would help him buy that business. He insisted his administration would place no tax increases on small business as 50% of business income tax is already on small business, a point that seems to elude Obama.
When Obama rebutted, his statements were full of lies. McCain said Obama wanted to spread the wealth around, and quoted him on socialism.
McCain asked Obama, with this current economy, why would you want to increase anyone's taxes right now?
Obama was quiet and then stumbled and didn't know what to say. Instead of responding, he brought up the huge corporate CEO salaries at companies such as Exxon Mobile. However, that wasn't the point. The point was SMALL BUSINESS, which employ over 80 percent of American workers. Why doesn't Obama get that, your blogger wonders?
Instead Obama responded, "nobody likes taxes. But ultimately, we've got to pay for "core investments'". (TRANSLATION: "I am the Walter Mondale of the 1984 race and I will raise your taxes." Does anyone remember how Mondale did in that election? He won only one state, his own.)
McCain shot back, "Nobody likes taxes so let's not raise them. We need to cut business tax rate in America right now, encourage lower taxes, not 'spread wealth around'", he added to much lively applause and cheering from the Wake County Republican Party crowd, your blogger was with at the Raleighwood Theater in North Raleigh.
The next question was "How would you cut spending?"
Obama stated that the $750 billion rescue package, if structured properly, means taxpayers get their money. Cut programs that won't work. Go thru whole federal budget line by line. However, like most Members of Congress, your blogger doubts that Obama has ever even read the entire federal budget.
McCain retorted, "We must have nuclear power, energy independence, and offshore drilling which Obama has opposed." McCain would cut first via an across the board spending freeze. "I would use the hatchet and then get out a scalpel. We are giving a half a trillion to China. We need to stop this."
He added that he would eliminate subsidies to ethanol. McCain said he knows how to save billions. He's saved taxpayers billions already. Will fight for a line item veto and will fight against ear mark spending.
Obama stated that they disagree on across the board spending freeze. It is a hatchet and he's against. Some programs are underfunded. He added that earmarks account for 1/2 of one percent of fed budget. (Lie.)
Obama then spoke negatively of President Bush, who he said inherited a budget surplus and now has a huge deficit.
McCain: "You are not running against President Bush, you are running against me and a new direction! " Much cheering and applause went up to that statement! McCain used the example of New York Mayor Bloomberg's across the board spending freeze.
"American's are hurting tonight and are angry. Sen. Obama voted for last two budgets that had more in spending than the bush admin proposed so don't (get) on me for the budgets I supported. I have fought against spending and I have fought for reform.
"Tell me one time when you have fought against the leaders of your own party. "
Maryanne Camesano, crowd member from Wake Forest, stated that she loves this debate, can see the anger in McCain's eyes and wants him to get "even madder".
McCain: It's clear I've fought against members of my own party, and I have the scars to prove it. I have long record of reform and fighting for it on the floor of US Senate. Obama's arguments are not very convincing.
McCain: It's been a tough campaign. He wishes senator Obama would have responded to his urgent request to have town hall meetings across nation. Cong. Lewis made allegations that Palin and McCain were associated with 60s church bombings, racism, horrible things that happened and were totally inappropriate and Obama didn't condemn it. Obama has spent more on negative ads than any campaign in history. He didn't keep word when he doesn't accept public financing.
Another member of the audience, Republican David Higgins (left), visiting from the Charlotte area, stated Obama looks like he's been hit in face and "he can't take criticism."
For quite some time, Obama wouldn't respond to the Rep. John Lewis comments about Sarah Palin. McCain kept bringing them up. Obama finally said that Lewis sort of said he shouldn't have said it and that Gov. Palin should have discouraged her supporters who would shout "terrorist" and "kill him" every time she mentioned Obama's name.
Obama: "When people suggest that I pal around with terrorists, we are not talking about the issues. " But Obama's associations ARE an issue. Your blogger's mother always told her that you are who you associate with and if you see someone doing bad things, you should get away from them as quickly as possible. Obama must have ignored his mother's good advice!
(By this time, your blogger was feeling like she was at a high school pep rally. The Wake County partisan crowd was getting rowdy in cheering for their man. )
John McCain is getting mad: "I have repudiated every time someone has gotten out of line." "I'm proud of the people that come to our rallies."
Obama: Changed the subject. Let's focus on the economy...Let's not be disagreeable."
"We need to know the full extent of that relationship" McCain said quoting Sen Hillary Clinton. Then mentioned ACORN, which receives federal funding.
Obama: "Bill Ayers is a professor of Education in Chicago. 40 years ago he engaged in dispicable acts and Obama's condemned them. They both served on a school board together ten years ago. He's not involved in my campaign and never has. He won't advise me in the White House".
Obama went on to say that "ACORN is community organization that goes out and register folks. Apparently some people just filled out a bunch of forms. We were not involved. Out of the blue he added, that while a State Senator, he is proud of helping Illinois get motor voter laws" which is yet another way people can register to vote without taking an oath and without showing any form of identification.
(Your blogger used to be a Wake County voter registrar and in the days before motor voter in North Carolina, each person registering to vote, had to show current identification and take an oath, swearing or affirming that all information was true.)
McCain: "WHILE YOU WERE ON BOARD OF WOODS FOUNDATION, WITH AYERS, YOU SENT MONEY TO ACORN." Obama denies.
Obama sticking to economy. McCain sticking it to Obama.
McCain speaking on Sarah Palin: It's time we have a breath of fresh air and sweep out the old boy network. She understands reform. She understands special needs families. He's proud that she has united our party and has brought out people who have never been involved in the political process before.
McCain in closing statements: Build 45 new nuke plants right away. With nukes, natural gas, flex fuels, clean coal, hybrids, wind, tides, in 7-10 years, we can easily eliminate our depeendance on foreign oil. Time to get started is now.
Obama, says we can reduce, in 10 years, importing from Middle east and Venezula. Expand domestic production, selling oil companies that they have leased - use 'em or lose 'em. We can't drill out way outa the problem. He's for solar, wind, biodesiel, needs fuel efficient car, that's built in America.
Obama: NAFTA: He believes that far too often that Bush administration says, with support of McCain, that any trade agreement is a good one. McCain disagrees.
McCain: Obama says we can "look at" offshore drilling, McCain says we must drill now, not like Obama. He admires Obama's "eloquence" but listen to what he's really saying. He bashes Obama for never having traveled south of our border.
McCain: Free trade with Columbia is a no-brainer. "Maybe you ought to travel down there so you can see what is going on. Maybe you should go or at least read their history."
Obama says he's for free trade, but he kept saying he wanted to "renegotiate" NAFTA, to which Canada, says "fine, we'll sell all our oil to China, then." Clearly Obama is not for free trade!
Obama wants to help automakers who are "getting hammered right now" but that's because they are unionized, thinks this blogger. We should let the market drive the battery cars, not the government. Obama should learn a thing or two about free markets.
McCain: "We cannot restrict trade. That's what Herbert Hoover did and we went from recession into depression."
Excellent debate. McCain finally gave it to Obama. He has an excellent chance to win this election and your blogger will eagerly watch the overnight polls to see if the debate had any affect.

“The legislature has had the opportunity to provide North Carolina’s property owners with real protection during its recent legislative sessions,” Shanahan said. “Unfortunately, their efforts fell far short. Many North Carolina conservatives have told your blogger that though John McCain doesn't excite them, his running mate, Sarah Palin (left) most certainly does. Your blogger has repeatedly heard that Palin could be the next Ronald Reagan.
There will never be another Reagan. He was one of a kind. However, Governor Palin is special in her own right, and she, like your blogger, was greatly influenced by our 40th President.
She deftly handles tough questions. Recently, she handled a heckler with grace, by saying "Bless your heart. My son is in Iraq fighting so you have the freedom to say these things."
She has an easy manner with the camera and has the ability to clearly explain her positions. Conservatives everywhere are in love with Sarah. She has looks, style, and most of all, substance. Just like Reagan.
Your blogger and Palin are about the same age. We both came of age during the Reagan administration and KCC often refers to herself as a proud member of the Reagan generation. He meant so much to people like us, that we were forever affected by his greatness. That's why Katy's Conservative Corner is a "conservative blog" rather than just a "Republican blog".
It's only fitting that the person to take up his mantle is a fellow Gen Xer. Your blogger was a youngster of 14 when Reagan was first elected. It was a great awakening, politically. To see Palin have the ability to articulately explain her positions and excite conservatives in a way not seen since the great communicator, swells the heart of this blogger and conservatives everywhere. Reagan touched kids like us in a way that cannot be explained.
Sure, the left is after her. That's the way it goes when people love and admire you and look to you for leadership. People like Gov. Palin will always have "little dogs" nipping at their heels, trying to pull them off their ladder of success. Even those in her own party have tried to tear her down. It happens in every profession. But Sarah Palin manages it with grace and ease. If these small-minded people bother her, it never shows.
Palin was invited to this weekend's Defending the American Dream summit, sponsored by Americans for Prosperity. That, however, when she was JUST the Alaskan Governor. Since then, the world now knows her as "Sarah Barracuda",she needs to be traveling the country, spreading the REAL message of hope and change.
Look for great things for Sarah Palin. If she doesn't win the Vice Presidency, in '08, look for her to be THE front-runner in 2012 for President.
By then, the nation will have learned the truth about Barrack Hussein Obama, and he will have run his brand of socialism into the ground. Sure, he can talk a smooth game during a campaign, but he'll prove to be the worst President in American history, and Palin and her fellow conservatives will waltz into the White House, again.
It's not over yet, though, but we've all got our collective eyes on Sarah. So far, she hasn't disappointed.

As you probably know by now, Senator John McCain is in Wilmington on Monday. For details, check out the North Carolina Republican Party website.
Additionally, your blogger hears that both McCain and veep candidate Governor Sarah Palin are in the planning stages of scheduling trips to Western North Carolina, usually solidly in the red column. Those folks have voted Republican since before Reconstruction and have not let us down since.
However, with the McCain team seemingly deaf to the cries of conservatives to go on the offensive against Obama for his problems with ACORN and other significant issues, many fear that valued mountain voters could "sit out" this election. Visits to Asheville, Boone, Statesville, or Hickory, are especially needed to rally the base.
Look for stops in Western NC by both members of the GOP national ticket in the coming days. Palin's visits are especially needed. Everywhere she goes, she excites the base and reels in Democrats to our side. That was especially evident during her visit to Greenville (left) last week.
Nearly as many Democrats as Republicans came to see the Alaska Governor, including "Jessecrats", the Eastern North Carolina Democrats who supported arch-conservative U.S. Senator Jesse Helms. They proved to be the difference between a win and a loss for Helms, whose elections were always close.
