United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court on September 11,,2008, THERON JERMAINE THOMPSON a/k/a “Freak”, 34, of New Bern, pled guilty before Chief United States District Judge Louise W. Flanagan.
THOMPSON pleaded guilty to a Criminal Indictment charging him with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than fifty (50) grams of cocaine base (crack), possession with intent to distribute more than five grams of cocaine base (crack) on or around August 8, 2006, March 10, 2006, and September 3, 2006, and also distributing a quantity of cocaine base (crack) on March 10,
2006.
THOMPSON admitted in court to participating in the drug conspiracy from September 2005 to January 2008, the date of the Criminal Indictment returned against him. THOMPSON faces up to life imprisonment, a fine of up to $4,000,000, and 5 years of supervised release following his term of confinement. Sentencing is scheduled for the December 1, 2008 term of court.
In response to this case, Mr. Holding stated, “The dedication of our state and local law enforcement continues as they seek to identify and apprehend drug traffickers in our communities. Without their assistance, federal prosecution would not be possible. Our gratitude for their hard work and tireless efforts many times go unnoticed. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase their fine work and thank them for it.” targeting multiple mid-level drug traffickers located in and around the New Bern area. Assistant United States Attorney Joshua Royster served as the prosecutor for the government.
