Monday evening, shortly before a meeting of the Wake County Young Republicans, your blogger had the privilege of talking with Jack Sawyer (left). Sawyer is attempting to unseat 12-year incumbent Elaine Marshall, whose tenure has been rife with mismanagement and a lack of oversight.
In the interview, below, Sawyer discusses why he is more qualified for the post than Secretary Marshall, how he could run the department better, and what he plans to do in his first 100 days.
Unfortunately, the council of state races, like all down-ballot races, get little notice from the press. Katy's Conservative Corner attempts to rectify that by bringing you a series of video interviews in the coming days. Watch this blog for more.
JACK SAWYER PUTS OPPONENT IN HOT SEAT DURING DEBATE
MEBANE – Jack Sawyer, Republican candidate for North Carolina Secretary of State, squared off against opponent Elaine Marshall in a debate sponsored by non-partisan think tank NCFREE.
During the debate Sawyer challenged Secretary Marshall on several episodes of mismanagement that occurred under her watch—to which Marshall had no real response.
"Secretary Marshall has made it clear that she does not want to debate the issues in this race," said Sawyer. "The citizens of North Carolina deserve better than the mismanagement they have received under Secretary Marshall's watch. When I'm Secretary of State, my top priority will be restoring transparency and accountability to the Department of the Secretary of State."
Links to the debate—which is broken down by question—can be found at www.JoinJack.com under the "debates" tab on the right.
Jack Sawyer, 36, is a real estate attorney and small business owner from Kinston, North Carolina. He now lives in Mebane, North Carolina with his wife and three children.
