It was electrifying in the Convention Hall last night and it was a packed house! Reporters from every type of media swarmed the convention hall conducting interviews with Delegates. Attendees were dressed in their "bling" outfits, funny hats and of course the entire Texas delegation wore matching attire and cowboy hats. We even had in our presence Abraham Lincoln and a Civil War General. I was fortunate enough to get an autograph from Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Governor Mike Huckabee. The biggest surprise sighting was Henry Kissinger.
By the time the evening had ended last night, we cheered, chanted and cried after hearing the stories of John and Cindy McCain. Cindy's story was one of compassion and giving to those in need. John McCain told his story like it had never been told before. I know that each of you were watching and felt the same emotion.
At one point during McCain's speech, when the crowd kept chanting U-S-A, it was because of a disruption in the audience from two Code Pink women, who were immediately removed. Senator McCain handled the disruption with style and humor.
When the balloons were released, there were so many that it filled up the aisles and covered the delegate chairs. What a celebration!! After we returned to our hotel, Bob Crumley - Candidate for NC Attorney General - treated the NC Delegation to a Celebration Pizza Party. Thank you again Bob!
Even though there were many stories in the news regarding the violence of the protesters, I am not aware that any of the NC Delegation had any encounters.
Well, Convention clean-up begins here in St. Paul and we are headed home, but our work has just begun. We have a ticket who has a love of country, understands the importance of protecting our citizens and believes in the American dream. We can make a historical moment for women become a reality! I love this country and I am proud to be an American!
I will see you back in North Carolina.
