Raleigh - People from all walks of life descended on Halifax Mall, next to the NC Assembly on Wednesday, telling North Carolina legislators that they are tired of higher taxes, junk science (so-called "global warming") and the lack of respect for our nation.
The group enjoyed fried chicken, yummy Bar-be-que (Eastern NC style), beach music, and free, bright red t-shirts.
Dallas Woodhouse, state chapter Americans for Prosperity, kicked off the proceedings with a rallying cry, getting the crowd fired up. The highlight of the afternoon for this blogger was the appearance of former US Senator and Senate Republican leader, Bob Dole.
Known for his dry wit and affable charm, Dole told plenty of good natured jokes, peppered with serious comments about what the national Democrats have done TO our nation in these last two years of "leadership".
The liberals want to blame everything under the sun on President Bush, Dole told the crowd. But he listed numerous downfalls our nation has seen since the seating of the Democrat Congress in January 2007.
Popular Republican, Michael Steel, of Maryland gave a rousing talk, as did gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory, Lt Gubernatorial candidate Robert Pittenger, and others. Ryan Teague Beckwith's Under the Dome blog has more on Pittenger's talk here.
Grassroots Coordinator, Chris Farr, announced that the national American's for Prosperity's "Hot Air Tour" was coming to Raleigh on July 9th. The luncheon event will feature at 70-something feet tall balloon. The purpose is to show how unnecessary so-called climate change legislation is. It's simply "hot air", Farr said.
For more information on the Hot Air Tour in Raleigh, check out the AFP's website or give them a call at 919-839-1011
Check this site on Thursday for video quips by Bob Dole, who threw in a few plugs for wife Elizabeth, North Carolina's senior Senator, who is running for re-election in a tough battle with liberal (and virtual communist) Kay Hagan.
More photos of the event are posted in the following section.
EDITOR'S NOTE: Your blogger volunteered for Bob Dole in the 1987-1988 primary season when he first ran for President. She received an award for making over 5,000 phone calls to voters on his behalf. The prize? A huge portrait that hung over her fireplace for many years. It was replaced by wedding photos in 2005.
Unfortunately, KCC will not be on hand for the Hot Air Tour Stop on July 9th. She is having her long-awaited spinal fusion surgery to correct her degenerative disc disease. But, turn out at Halifax Mall and support the AFP.
