Democrat Tax Increase Defeated at the Polls
Yesterday’s poll results were very telling: taxpayers across North Carolina overwhelmingly voted against the latest Democrat tax idea – transfer taxes on real estate. Voters in all 16 of the 16 counties with the “home tax” on the ballot rejected this new tax.
Today, I made the following statement:
“Yesterday’s votes confirm that the people understand better than Democrat politicians in Raleigh that government taxes at all levels are high enough – many would say too high. North Carolina taxpayers already shoulder the heaviest tax burden in the southeast and one of the highest in the nation. The defeat of the home tax is a clear victory for the people and confirms the wisdom of giving voters a voice in public policy decisions especially those decisions which impact tax rates and spending.”
Editor's Note: Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) is the North Carolina Senate Republican Leader.
