(Palm Springs, Ca.) – The National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW) named Martha Jenkins, the President of the North Carolina Federation of Republican Women. the winner of the Ronald Reagan Leadership Award on September 30, 2007 at it’s 34th biennial convention.
Established in 2005 to commemorate the distinguished leadership of the late President Ronald Reagan, the NFRW Ronald Reagan Leadership Award honors a state president who provides extraordinary leadership and inspiration to her state Federation and to the NFRW.
A finalist for the Reagan award in 2005, Martha Jenkins has led the North Carolina Federation in revamping its website, building communications with Republican legislators and the state GOP, and enhancing public relations efforts. She has also been an unwavering proponent of the Jessica Lunsford Act, and advocates its passage in N.C. Her advocacy has brought her appearances on “The O’Reilly Factor” and on the Bill Lumaye radio show.
“It is quite an honor receive this award, which is named for the greatest President in my lifetime,” said Jenkins. “This represents the efforts of all the NCFRW Executive Committee and Board of Directors.”
Martha Jenkins has been president of the North Carolina Federation of Republican Women since 2003. Mrs. Jenkins also currently serves as chairman of the 4th Congressional District Republican Party and serves on the Orange County GOP Executive Committee. She is a past president of the Republican Women’s Club of Chapel Hill and past chairman of the Orange County Republican Party.
Mrs. Jenkins is married to Ed Jenkins and has two daughters. The Jenkins family businesses are Flags Over America and Satellite City, based in Durham.
In addition to the Ronald Reagan Leadership Award, the North Carolina Federation of Republican Women also brought home First Place for the Public Relations Award , First Place in state’s size category for Volunteer Hours, and the Betty Heitman Award for State Excellence.
“These awards are a product of a great team of Republican Women in North Carolina, who have worked very hard to promote the candidates and ideals of the Republican Party,” said President Jenkins. “We have a great group of dedicated, knowledgeable women who go the extra mile for our Federation and the Republican Party,” she added.
Many clubs also brought home awards. The Fayetteville Republican Women’s Club, the Forsyth County Republican Women’s Club, the Gem Country Republican Women and the Salisbury-Rowan Republican Women’s club won the Diamond Award for Club Achievement. In addition, Gold Awards for Club Achievement were won by the Charlotte Mecklenburg Republican Women, the Crescent Republican Women’s Club, the Crystal Coast Republican Women’s Club, the East Lincoln Republican Women’s Club, the Gaston County Republican Women’s Club, the Greater Greensboro Republican Women’s Club, the Randolph County Republican Women’s Club and the Sweet Union Republican Women’s Club.
The Craven County Republican Women’s Club, the Moore Republican Women, The Scotland County Republican Women’s Club, the South Cabarrus Republican Women’s Club, the Stanly County Republican Women’s Club and the Stokes County Republican Women’s Club won the Silver Award for Club Achievement. Winning the Bronze Award were the Gaston County Evening Republican Women’s Club, the Johnston County Republican Women’s Club, the Lower Cape Fear Republican Women’s Club, the Mecklenburg Evening Republican Women’s Club and the Republican Women’s Club of Eastern North Carolina.
The Gem Country Republican Women won First Place for the Caring For American Award and the Gaston County Republican Women’s Club won Second Place in this category.
The North Carolina Federation of Republican Women is part of the National Federation of Republican Women. Nationally, there are over 100.000 members in the Federation, founded in 1938.
