State Government Radio and WPTF are reporting that the Edwards campaign is attempting to kill a negative story running in the UNC student run Daily TarHeel, student-run television Carolina Week and a video on YouTube.
Edwards, frankly, cannot afford this negative attention. Civitas reports that he is running third in his home state in the Democrat presidential race. Lucky for him that our primaries will be held so late, that North Carolina will have virtually NO SAY in who our nominees will be.
State Government Radio states the following on its website (Editor's Note: Links in story are provided by Katy's Conservative Corner):
A student journalist at UNC–Chapel Hill is claiming members of the John Edwards presidential campaign attempted to get a story she produced on the campaign pulled from broadcast.
"The news about the controversy was first reported by UNC professor Leroy Towns on the Talk Politics blog. Carla Babb's report focuses on Edwards’ campaign headquarters located in Chapel Hill’s Southern Village, described in the report as the city’s most affluent neighborhood.
The location for the headquarters interested some students who thought it conflicted with Edwards' stance on reducing poverty.
Babb, a second-year graduate student, produced the report for Carolina Week, a television news program run by the UNC School of Journalism and Mass Communication. She also posted the two-and-a-half minute piece on the video website YouTube as part of an entry for an MTV Choose or Lose contest.
After her story went online, Babb says a member of the Edwards campaign called her and expressed their resentment and concern over the report. Babb referred the staffer to UNC assistant professor Dr. C.A. Tuggle, who oversees the Carolina Week program.
Tuggle says he subsequently received calls from Edwards campaign staffers, who questioned the integrity of the report as well as school staff, and threatened to cut off the school's access to the campaign...
Gosh, darn, no access to the campaign. What a shame.

UPDATE:
As it turns out, Edwards didn't even know about the story. Overeager campaign staffers were behind the threats. Edwards has distanced himself from these remarks.
It seems as if Edwards faltering campaign could use more professional staffers, however, it would probably just be too little, too late.
