Fern Shubert Speaks for Us Published by admirers of former Senator Fern Shubert. Shubert served the ole' North State well, until stepping down from her office to make a run for Governor in 2004. While she is greatly missed from office, she knows where the "bodies are buried" and is still found digging up the truth.

When your blogger was a young girl in the late 1960s and 1970s, her only career options consisted of the following: secretary, nurse, or teacher. These were the traditional roles that women took in the work place and a woman was supposed to give up this role as soon as she was married. Afterall, that's what our favorite girl, Barbie, did and KCC's mom was a hardworking young secretary, too.
Your blogger didn't realize until she was in 7th grade, that she could do anything she wanted to. In 1979, couple KCC babysat for, told her to go for it in life and not be held back by anything. That was the first your blogger had heard of this.
By this time, KCC was winning her Jr. High School's science fairs, and was doing well in science classes. But she had never considered going into anything science-related. When she attempted to study biology in college, it was too late.
Today's little girls don't have those limitations. They even have toys that grow up to participate in careers once thought of as traditionally male. Take Barbie for example. The 126th career for Barbie is Computer Engineer (above, left).
KCC's husband is also an engineer, and says that companies located in the US often complain that domestic engineering schools do not turn out enough native born graduates. Thus, they have to turn to imported talent, which involves more red tape and is thus more difficult to work with. Companies today are working hard to help recruit young ladies into engineering schools.
Your blogger's husband encourages young girls to study math, as early as possible. Boys are not naturally better in math, as previously thought. Girls were just never before encouraged, as popular thought was that they would not need it. KCC was once such a girl and today is very weak in her math "skills".
KCC applauds Barbie's latest career and hopes that she will bring more girls into the field. Gosh knows, we need them!
As the loss of our liberty looms and freedom shivers in the shadow of socialism, we must reject this new worldview of government first, hand in our pocket liberalism that is creeping into every level of our lives and destroying the freedoms granted to us by our Constitution and bequeathed by our Creator.
America is being weakened spiritually, morally and economically. Our inalienable rights are now an indulgence of government and freedom has never been so fragile, so close to slipping away as it is at this moment in our history.
Liberalism is the new religion of the political class in Washington and Raleigh. They continue to seize power denied by the Constitution to the detriment of our liberty and we must stop the theft of our freedom.
When we gather in Raleigh in June for the State Convention, let us rally on Halifax Mall as a means to peacefully voice our opposition concerning the seizure of our liberty and the mismanagement of the public treasury.
We must halt the invasion of this intrusive socialist government by offering voters an alternative to a Liberal Orwellian Democratic Party that seeks to strangle economic mobility, suppress freedom and surrender American sovereignty.

Check out this little video that is making the rounds on the conservative circuit. This man is exactly right and funny. That's the thing about we conservatives: we are right and we have fun, simultaneously!
Your blogger just took a funzie quiz entitled "What kind of Conservative are you?"
See how KCC scored, below. We really don't think of ourselves as "Libertarian" at all and kind of consider that term a dirty word. But apparently, these days people on the right think it's "cool" to be a Libertarian-Conservative and not just be Conservative. To me the term is a little redundant because a Conservative is for limited government and lower taxes.
If you are a conservative, take the quiz and see how you come out. Remember, it's just for fun and liberals need not apply.
You are an Anti-government Gunslinger, also known as a libertarian conservative. You believe in smaller government, states’ rights, gun rights, and that, as Reagan once said, “The nine most terrifying words in the English language are, ‘I’m from the government and I’m here to help.’”
While Elizabeth Edwards suffers from incurable breast cancer, former NC Senator, former trial Lawyer, and UNC-CH employee, Johnny Edwards, has been caught with a mistress in the Beverly Hilton Hotel. An article goes on to describe a love child.
He has achieved his dream with only Republican Philip Isley to oppose him (insert Dr. Evil sounds here), and he's on his way to destroy was was once a very fine city. He's squeezing the taxpayers of all their money, one dollar at a time.
Your blogger normally tries not to blog on her adopted city of 25 years, but today, we had to say something. There were several items of interest and we share them with you as a warning. Don't ever let the liberals take over your city or town.
First, there is the matter of thegarbage disposal ban. Starting March 17th, any new home or business tying into the Raleigh sewer system will be forbidden from installing the device, part of an effort to keep sewer pipes clear. KCC believes this is the Raleigh City Council's knee-jerk reaction to a drought that has been two years in the making. They want to move into our homes and tell us how to live our lives like good little liberals.
At our house, we did not water our yard last year, while everyone else did. The city council stood by and allowed our water resources to go down the drain. Only late in the fall did they restrict law watering. Too little too late. What kind of leadership is that Mayor Meeker, you so-called environmentalist?
Next, there is the matter of Raleigh hosting a second round of "Comprehensive Planning Public Workshops." Why they need more than one is beyond this blogger. We assume city government has some extra tax money to toss around, and rather than giving it back to the taxpayers or using it for a rainy day fund, they planned a useless meeting.
Third, Raleigh wants us all to celebrate "OUR MOTHER". Oh, that's nice, Mother's Day, right?
WRONG. They want us to celebrate something called "Our Mother Earth" on "Earth Day". And the city is paying for it, so it's all free! No, not free. We've already paid. The event is titled "Planet Earth Celebration: Respect Your Mother".
Raleighites are encouraged to "join us for a green Earth Day festival, have fun, and learn about the many opportunities in our community for living lightly on the Planet."
Katy's Conservative Corner is all for saving our resources. After all, what's more conservative than conservation? But, going crazy and driving battery-powered cars and having taxpayer-funded political "festivals" only serve to make a few people "feel good".
So, this blogger's family will avoid the hippies and skip it this year. Ditto the other events.
Hopefully with City Council elections coming up in 2009, some good conservatives will run and hold these liberals' feet to the fire.
KCC encourages the Wake County GOP to continue finding good candidates that will take these liberals on.
Do you remember the election of 1994? That's when conservatives first came on the scene and Mayor Tom Fetzer defeated liberal activist Mary Watson Nooe by hanging around her neck, a piece of taxpayer-funded "art" on Capital Boulevard. By using the so-called "Art Tower" as a reference point and calling cry, conservatives stormed onto Raleigh City Council.
We need to review those tactics and do it again. It's time to get these newly elected liberals out. 2009 must be our rallying cry!
The popular "Life is Good" t-shirts, stickers, mugs, and so on, have some competition.
Katy's Conservative Corner (KCC) first noticed the "Life is Crap" trend during a recent visit to Atlantic Beach, NC. These new T's had taken over. She checked them out online and discovered a number of funny taglines, such as the one at left: "Hillary Elected: Plans to Raise Taxes Soon...Life is Crap".
Other catchy lines included "Press #1 for English, Life is Crap", and "Out of Chocolate, Life is Crap".
The Life is Crap website states:
"At LIFE IS CRAP™ we believe that the universal cure to crappy situations is laughter. We believe that poking a little fun at ourselves, and the world, is the best way to get through those occasional lousy moments. So for those of you who aren’t eternal optimists, let LIFE IS CRAP ™ be your anthem. Because the way we see it, the glass is usually half full… only sometimes it’s half full of crap."
Anyone with an oddball sense of humor might enjoy checking out their website.
Editor's Note: Your blogger owns a number of "Life is Good" shirts and now has a couple of "Life is Crap" shirts on order. Neither company sponsors Katy's Conservative Corner, and in fact, this blog does not accept advertising.
While I was indeed sorry about the fate dealt to Anna Nicole Smith, I don't want to wish anyone harm. However, since Friday, the news and entertainment media have overwhelmed us with her sordid tales.
According to the media, we Americans can't seem to get enough of her. It seems she's bigger in death than in life. She would have loved all this attention, since that's all she was about.
The person we should feel sorry for is her daughter. About the only thing we Americans can do is pray for the best for the little baby and let the courts do their job.
Meanwhile, who cares who the father is? Anna Nicole was a bad girl who slept around with men, old and young. It seems that she didn't care much about herself so she used drugs to escape her life. No one brought this on her but herself. With the money she had, she could have certainly afforded the professional help to get a better life.
Let's move on. Even my old standard, Fox News, seems to think that we can't get enough of her. Everyone I know comments to me how sick they are of hearing about her, but it's almost like a drug we can't get enough of. We as viewers, readers, and listeners should contact media outlets and say "Enough".
Last night, the Dixie Chicks, virtually swept the 2007 Grammy Awards. The Chicks, those Bush-bashing Texans, won a number of awards, and amazed everyone along the way.
You'll remember that several years ago, they spoke out against our President, saying they didn't support him and were ashamed to be fellow Texans. Radio stations boycotted them by refusing to promote their records and not playing their songs.
All of a sudden, they're back. This time, they have turned their rears to their core audience, country music lovers. Country music listeners are highly patriotic and won't buy their music that they feel is anti-American. Basically, The Chicks became a country group with no country audience.
Their concerts in sold few tickets and had to be cancelled, all over the country. The Recording Academy, the group that votes on the Grammy awards, apparently didn't get the message.
Now that the music awards season is over, The Chicks can go home and enjoy their trophies, albeit alone. Their former fans have moved on to better stuff.
