The Wake County Republican Party has printed "Don't Tread On Me" T-Shirts ahead of today's Tea Party happening from 4:30 to 7:30 on Halifax Governement Mall, in downtown Raleigh.
The Tea Party, sponsored by the NC Chapter of Americans for Prosperity, is a statewide protest against the billion dollar state tax increase. Fox News Star, and all around interesting person, Mary Katharine Ham, will be the featured speaker, along with "Joe the Plumber".
The "Don't Tread On Me T-Shirts" are twenty dollars and are limited to first-come, first serve, and are available at the Tea Party only. Get yours just as soon as you arrive at the Tea Party. Sizes run large, so purchase a size down from what you would normally wear.
UPDATE: THE SHIRTS WILL ALSO BE AVAILABLE AT THE NCGOP STATE CONVENTION. WAKE IS THE HOST COUNTY.
Editor's Note: Your blogger is an activist and board member with the Wake GOP Executive Committee and serves on the NC GOP Executive Committee. She'll see you today (Wednesday) at the Tea Party, proudly sporting her new T-Shirt, with her young son in tow. Please be sure to say hello!
It is the opinion of this blogger, that our "esteemed" former first lady, Mary Easley, will not go gently into that good night. In fact, she won't go at all. She is refusing to step down.
She has hired guard dog lawyer, Marvin Schiller, with whom this blogger has personal experience and personally likes and respects. Because Mrs Easley has retained Mr. Schiller, the citizens of North Carolina have every right to cling tightly to their pocket books.
Your blogger looks for Mrs. Easley to hold out for an extremely lucrative buyout, setting herself up for life, so that she and "dearest Mike", can go down to Cannonsgate (near the home of this blogger) and enjoy their golden years, while their friends fall around them like houses of cards.
Congratulations Democrats. Thank you imposing Governor Michael Easley on our State, twice! You've just cost us even more money, that we don't have.
North Carolina, NC State University, and everyone surrounding the former Governor will all lose. The big exception is his wife, who will come out smelling like a rose, depending on the perfume she chooses.
Editor's Note: Marvin Schiller (left) is a former Republican candidate for the North Carolina Supreme Court.

“While the Democrat leadership in the General Assembly takes every opportunity to cut the University’s budget and Democrat Governor Bev Perdue is forcing all University employees to take a pay cut; the last thing we need to do is pay a former first lady $850,000 for five years of superfluous work. Every family in this state has to make cuts to their family budget to pay for basic needs - the University needs to follow their example and cut the dead weight. Why cut classes students need for graduation requirements and faculty positions when we could save $850,000 over five years by eliminating one made up position? Regardless of her alleged qualifications or where her salary comes from, her unessential position is a bad example for the citizens of this great state. Mary Easley needs to do the honorable thing and resign.”
As the loss of our liberty looms and freedom shivers in the shadow of socialism, we must reject this new worldview of government first, hand in our pocket liberalism that is creeping into every level of our lives and destroying the freedoms granted to us by our Constitution and bequeathed by our Creator.
America is being weakened spiritually, morally and economically. Our inalienable rights are now an indulgence of government and freedom has never been so fragile, so close to slipping away as it is at this moment in our history.
Liberalism is the new religion of the political class in Washington and Raleigh. They continue to seize power denied by the Constitution to the detriment of our liberty and we must stop the theft of our freedom.
When we gather in Raleigh in June for the State Convention, let us rally on Halifax Mall as a means to peacefully voice our opposition concerning the seizure of our liberty and the mismanagement of the public treasury.
We must halt the invasion of this intrusive socialist government by offering voters an alternative to a Liberal Orwellian Democratic Party that seeks to strangle economic mobility, suppress freedom and surrender American sovereignty.
Something needs to be done to discredit and turn the American people against the Obama-Congressional Democratic agenda.
I believe an aggressive campaign that defines the Obama-Democratic agenda as “Not the American Way” would be an effective and succinct way to defeat their un-American plans. It would be a simple way to contrast their socialist agenda with the conservative American agenda that favors individual Americans as opposed to a bigger, more powerful government. It could help change public opinion against their agenda, their party and their candidates in 2010 and 2012. And it would provide a unified rallying cry that all conservatives could get behind and support.
1. Bailouts For Corporations Is Not The American Way.
2. Earmarks (Pork Barrel Spending) For Politicians’ Special Projects Is Not The American Way.
3. Imposing Socialist Healthcare On The American People Through The Budget, Not By The Legislative Process, Is Not The American Way.
4. Imposing Excessively High Taxes On The American People Is Not The American Way.
5. Not Protecting American Citizens Against Terrorism Is Not The American Way.
6. Making The Federal Budget A Higher Priority Than The Individual Budgets of American Citizens Is Not The American Way.
7. Obama’s firing of General Motors Chief Executive Rick Wagoner Is Not The American Way.
If you agree this campaign has merit, I hope you will use the “Not The American Way” slogan at every opportunity.
I have no proprietary claims on this slogan. My only desire is for the Obama-Democratic agenda to be defeated and to be replaced by proven conservative principles.
Please keep those calls to your legislators coming. Calls change minds, especially if they receive enough of them.
House Bill 120 has once again been postponed, this time until 3/30/09, in Monday night's session. Could it be that your calls and letters are working so well that the Liberal leadership has realized that they don't have the votes to get this to pass?
For more information on this terrible piece of legislation, please see KCC's previous blog post, here. It details how to contact your NC House Rep.
Tell your representative that you've had enough of welfare and goodies for politicians and to just say NO to this bad bill!

On Monday, Governor Beverly Perdue (D) announced that a chunk of NC's bit of the spendulus money will go to the largest pork project of all time, the North Carolina Global Transpork, errr Transpark.
The Transpark, was "awarded" to Kinston, in eastern NC, as a part of a "build it and they will come" campaign that occured in the early 1990s. Laurinburg "lost out" to Kinston and should thank their lucky stars.
They built it, but no one ever came despite all the monies that have been tossed at the project. The tenants are mostly government agencies.
But, now, apparently, the Governor (left) sees the need to pour in even more money into that wasteland of a pork project. We all know that the last three NC Governors have come from the Eastern part of our state, leaving those of you in Western North Carolina (WNC), "forgotten".
Frankly, your blogger would consider "forgetfulness" a matter of pride. Maybe WNC can show our government officials how to get along without a bunch of tax monies and useless pork projects. You all have that pioneer spirit that this blogger has always respected.
As many of you have already heard, the
so-called "stimulus" contains very damaging provisions, apparently
authored by Tom Daschle, that would provide for electronic tracking and
government monitoring of healthcare so a government bureaucrat can
monitor costs and dictate patient care. This is federal health care
rationing. We would like to get the word out about this as quickly as
possible to encourage people to flood their representatives with calls
demanding that this provision be removed. Health care affects
everyone, and as the article below notes, this is likely to
disproportionately impact the elderly.
contact your House members today and urge them to have electronic
tracking and government monitoring of healthcare removed from the
stimulus bill. Even if they support the stimulus, they need to oppose
this portion of the bill. There is a reason why Canadians, Europeans
and other foreigners who have the means come to the U.S. for surgery
and other medical procedures. Our level of healthcare is the envy in
the world. Why on earth would we want to see the day when our citizens
have to be put on a government waiting list for life-saving surgery?

We may be down, but not out, is how it appears to this blogger. At 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, the U.S. House and U.S. Senate Conference committees went into session to hammer out a compromise on the so-called "Stimulus Bill".
UPDATE: At 4:09 p.m.Fox News is reporting that the US House and Senate has reached a COMPROMISE. Turns out, they worked out the details overnight, in secret.Contacting your Congressmen and Senators is now more important than ever. See below...
Naturally, we conservatives know this is a terrible idea. This spending bills is ruining our childrens' futures. Katy's Conservative Corner opposes any such bill, no matter what
"compromise"s are in it. We only support complete defeat of any
"stimulus" bill. The new bill will be full of more wasteful spending projects and spending!
Please contact your Congressmen and Senators Richard Burr and Kay Hagan by clicking here and getting their phone and fax numbers. You may also e-mail them from that link and look up their voting records. Telephone calls and faxes tend to work best.
Please politely leave a message with whomever answers and tell them that you oppose any compromise to the stimulus bill and want Rep. or Sen. ______ to please vote against it. They WILL get the message.
Editor's Note: Fellow Blogger, Frank Williams, suggested I mention the Health Care issue in the Stimulus bill. Since we do not re-print blog posts, we agree and highly recommend the post, "Healthcare Danger Hidden in Stimulus".
Check out this little video that is making the rounds on the conservative circuit. This man is exactly right and funny. That's the thing about we conservatives: we are right and we have fun, simultaneously!
The US Senate took advantage of three RINO (turncoat) Republicans Monday to cut off debate, setting up a big vote on Tuesday over Obama's so-called "Stimulus" (spending) bill. A smack of the wet noodle to RINO Senators Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, and Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins of Maine. These Republican-in-name-only Senators should be ashamed!
Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) says on his own websitethat he is against the bill as is, but would accept it if changes are made.
Please contact Senator Burr and tell him to not accept any changes and to vote NO, NO MATTER WHAT!
Meanwhile, newly elected Senator Kay Hagan (D-NC) is doing as she is told, and voting the party line. (We'll see if she can ever stand on her own and stop being Harry Reid's Lap Puppy. )
Please urge her to vote NO. If she receives enough calls, faxes, and emails, perhaps she could change her mind.
Both Senators' contact information is below. If you get through on the telephone, be brief, leave a message with the person that answers, and above all, be polite.
Please note that e-mails are never as effective so keep trying to call.
Senator Kay Hagan: DC Phone: 202-224-6342, Raleigh Senate Office: 919-856-4630 E-mail: Senator_Hagan@hagan.senate.gov *Please note underscore (_) between Senator and Hagan
Please note that Senator Burr (left at the 2008 GOP Convention) is up for re-election in 2010. He's been threatened with a more conservative primary opponent, so your blogger would assume he would make a hard turn to the right, these next two years.
Your blogger plans to work on Burr's re-election campaign and will support him in his re-election effort.
However, the Senator needs to reel in the conservative base that is so strong in North Carolina. In fact, a little suite of offices in North Raleigh, saw the re-birth of the modern conservative movement in the early 1970s. These offices were the site of the Congressional Club and they gave birth to the careers of many conservative politicians, most notably, the late Senator Jesse Helms. (The club also saved Ronald Reagan's political career in 1976.)
North Carolina has a strong tradition of conservatism and Sen. Burr would do well to recognize that. He simply cannot afford to have this voting bloc "sit home" on election day, 2010.
Conservatives will, unfortunately, sit home, if they are not excited about a Republican candidate. That has happened a number of times in this blogger's recent memory, resulting in sour losses for Republicans.
Though your blogger never approves of anyone sitting home on election day for any reason, Burr needs to stir up the conservatives, as well as his traditional moderate base in the central part of the state.
He is expected to be challenged by Congressman Heath Shuler (D-11th District) and we'll have plenty more on that race.
Meanwhile, please do not give up and keep making those calls. Thank you!
Though people try to pin a lot of the present economic mess on President (George W) Bush 43, he isn't guilty on a lot of it. Does anyone remember Ross Perot saying of NAFTA, "I can hear that sucking sound" going south if (former President Bill) Clinton passes this as he did?
NAFTA or “Shafta” as I called it, is entangled in this amorphous thing call free trade. In many respects trade which is not fair gives away our competitive advantages, can indeed compromises environmental quality and worker standards regardless of what folks purports, but such deals do meet the bottom line of unfettered profits as well as the quest for cheap labor.
As Hardy said to Laurel, "another fine mess you’ve got us into". It seems few have read the proposed Obama/Pelosi/Reid Stimulus package(s) which lays out spending the likes of which we have never seen, government socialization of banking with the automotive businesses to follow, nationalize health care with the computer based records system which will allow the government access to all your health information [even though Obama, Palin and Biden wouldn’t release theirs], and forestalls doing the real work of infrastructure repairs until its time to vote again for our representatives.
Obama is trying to ram this spending bill of pork and earmarks through before the American public wakes up. Thankfully some commentators have read it.
There should be no vote on the economic stimulus plan until Treasury Secretary Geitner rolls out the next plan for banks which reportedly exceeds an additional $800 billion. With the call for Paul Volker to head the economic advisers, a car czar and all these other political appointee paybacks to head things many had a hand in, one can only ask who is in charge or who’s on first? One thing is for certain, it is not the citizens and our pocketbooks.
If you want to create jobs which will benefit all of our citizens, why not provide:
- Small business stimulus to eliminate their taxes for one year, halve the rate the following year and equalize them with the corporate rate. It is small businesses which create over fifty percent of the jobs in America. Allow small businesses to buy medical insurance as a collective and not subject those with less than five employees to benefits requirements. [probably less than 100 billion]
-Expand the US Coast Guard and Public Health Departments by 100,000 to ensure emergency response capability in every county in the USA and baseline access to health services such as immunizations and screenings which would include mental health services. [less than 100 billion]
-Build “the wall” to slow the flow of illegal immigrants as the level of gangs in California and Texas demonstrates we are about to lose control of our borders if we don’t do things differently. [less than 100 billion]
-Give one billion dollars to every state for infrastructure repairs on federal roads, bridges, and highways with priority going to those projects which are already shovel ready. [50 billion]
-Give no more money to banks, but allow homeowners mortgage relief from those who already took money with a half payment holiday for one year and the balance tacked on to the last loan payment. [already gave the banks the money]
-And since we are in such a generous mood, give each taxpayer $5000 tax free to spend as they’d like.
All of this would cost less than the $800 billion which even the Congressional Management Office of the Budget says present bills would and these simple measures would stimulate the economy and create thousands of jobs.

Liberal Raleigh Mayor, Charles Meeker, has pushed his one-track agenda on taxpayers since he was first elected in 2001. After taking full control of city council four years ago, he and his band of tax and spenders have focused on rebuilding Fayetteville Street and virtually ignoring the rest of the North Carolina capital city.
The problem isn't that they merely wanted to re-open and fix up Raleigh's former "Main Street", it's that Meeker and company spent hundreds of millions of tax monies on turning a dilapidated area into the city's focal point, forcing it to become a destination spot.
Not only did the city re-open and fix up the street, but it also build an over budget convention center, a city plaza, and an expensive hotel. While the rest of Raleigh had to wait its turn for repairs and basic services, Raleigh "invested" city tax dollars into a top drawer restaurant called The Mint.
The Mint describes itself as an "adult-themed dining and entertainment, catering to sophisticated and professional adults". Raleigh simply cannot afford to be so picky about its downtown customer base, especially when the eatery was largely paid for on the backs of hard working taxpayers, most of whom cannot afford to dine there. According to a recent article in the Triangle Business Journal, the Mint is now losing business.
Meanwhile, just a few blocks away, also in downtown, sits an eyesore you won't hear Mayor Meeker talk about. Tarboro Street is the source of drugs, gambling, and prostitution. It's near a local college, St. Augustine's, and the North Carolina Governor's Mansion. According a Raleigh News and Observer editorial, "disturbing crime patterns on the street show that it's a world away from those historic landmarks."
Further, there have been three murders in the past three years on Tarboro Street alone. A Raleigh City police officer owned a rental house that was the subject of numerous complaints by local residents regarding domestic violence, drugs, and prostitution.
On Fayetteville Street, Raleigh and its taxpayers most certainly will lose money on every one of these projects. As for how much and when, it is too early to tell. Your blogger will be discussing this issue for some time to come, so please watch this space for updates to this story.
Editor's Note:Joey Stansbury, a lifelong Raleigh resident and fellow conservative blogger, contributed to this report.
Gov.-Elect Beverly Perdue is standing up against corporate welfare by refusing to give any tax dollars to the supposed ailing biotech sector in North Carolina. KCC applauds this stance!
According to WRAL-TV in Raleigh, the RTP-based drug firms have been pressuring her to commit monies to for a taxpayer bailout to help keep them going, but she says she isn't budging. Let us hope this is the beginning of a new trend and her fellow Democrats in the North Carolina General Assembly will follow her lead.
KCC would be thrilled if the Democratic leadership in Raleigh gave up the idea of bailing out or giving corporate welfare/economic incentives to ANY company in North Carolina. It's time to end the handing out of freebies to the likes of Dell, Google, Goodyear, and others. Let the free market take it's rightful place.
KCC congratulates our Democratic governor-elect for her stance against a biotech bailout and encourages her to lead us one step further, forever end the practice of economic incentives. We hope this is a sign of things to come.
