Fern Shubert Speaks for Us Published by admirers of former Senator Fern Shubert. Shubert served the ole' North State well, until stepping down from her office to make a run for Governor in 2004. While she is greatly missed from office, she knows where the "bodies are buried" and is still found digging up the truth.

Though people try to pin a lot of the present economic mess on President (George W) Bush 43, he isn't guilty on a lot of it. Does anyone remember Ross Perot saying of NAFTA, "I can hear that sucking sound" going south if (former President Bill) Clinton passes this as he did?
NAFTA or “Shafta” as I called it, is entangled in this amorphous thing call free trade. In many respects trade which is not fair gives away our competitive advantages, can indeed compromises environmental quality and worker standards regardless of what folks purports, but such deals do meet the bottom line of unfettered profits as well as the quest for cheap labor.
As Hardy said to Laurel, "another fine mess you’ve got us into". It seems few have read the proposed Obama/Pelosi/Reid Stimulus package(s) which lays out spending the likes of which we have never seen, government socialization of banking with the automotive businesses to follow, nationalize health care with the computer based records system which will allow the government access to all your health information [even though Obama, Palin and Biden wouldn’t release theirs], and forestalls doing the real work of infrastructure repairs until its time to vote again for our representatives.
Obama is trying to ram this spending bill of pork and earmarks through before the American public wakes up. Thankfully some commentators have read it.
There should be no vote on the economic stimulus plan until Treasury Secretary Geitner rolls out the next plan for banks which reportedly exceeds an additional $800 billion. With the call for Paul Volker to head the economic advisers, a car czar and all these other political appointee paybacks to head things many had a hand in, one can only ask who is in charge or who’s on first? One thing is for certain, it is not the citizens and our pocketbooks.
If you want to create jobs which will benefit all of our citizens, why not provide:
- Small business stimulus to eliminate their taxes for one year, halve the rate the following year and equalize them with the corporate rate. It is small businesses which create over fifty percent of the jobs in America. Allow small businesses to buy medical insurance as a collective and not subject those with less than five employees to benefits requirements. [probably less than 100 billion]
-Expand the US Coast Guard and Public Health Departments by 100,000 to ensure emergency response capability in every county in the USA and baseline access to health services such as immunizations and screenings which would include mental health services. [less than 100 billion]
-Build “the wall” to slow the flow of illegal immigrants as the level of gangs in California and Texas demonstrates we are about to lose control of our borders if we don’t do things differently. [less than 100 billion]
-Give one billion dollars to every state for infrastructure repairs on federal roads, bridges, and highways with priority going to those projects which are already shovel ready. [50 billion]
-Give no more money to banks, but allow homeowners mortgage relief from those who already took money with a half payment holiday for one year and the balance tacked on to the last loan payment. [already gave the banks the money]
-And since we are in such a generous mood, give each taxpayer $5000 tax free to spend as they’d like.
All of this would cost less than the $800 billion which even the Congressional Management Office of the Budget says present bills would and these simple measures would stimulate the economy and create thousands of jobs.

Something NEW and frighting is happening in the 'ole North State and conservatives can't just sit back and do nothing!
The Unions are on the march in the nation and in North Carolina. We must fight to protect workers' rights in the workplace by keeping the secret ballot for workers who must vote for or against unionization. We must fight collective bargaining for public employees.
The NC Americans for Prosperity (AFP) needs YOU to keep our competitive edge by keeping North Carolina a Right to Work State. Join AFP as our national President Tim Phillips kicks off a national Save My Ballot Tour.

We have all heard of the Hollywood "Blacklist" of the 1950s when people were denied employment because of suspected associations with the American Communist Party. Liberals have especially spoken about the blacklist in disgust.
Fast forward sixty years. On November 4th, a referendum known as Proposition 8 was on the ballot for California voters. People all across the nation participated, despite it being a California-only measure.
It passed, despite the many leftists fighting it and some North Carolina citizens gave money to the cause in support of it. This year, instead of a blacklist, your blogger, along with others, proposes a white list, a group of donors with whom we SHOULD do business, thanks to their support of California's Prop 8.
Thanks to the California Secretary of State's office, KCC discovered who donated in support of Proposition 8. Though some are private citizens or retired, there is a movement nationally to get people in every state to support those who have businesses, who donated supporting the measure protecting traditional marriage.
Out of 153 total donors from the Old North State, 13 brave citizens stood up and said, "we want to preserve traditional marriage."
Here we list, alphabetically, by first name, those who gave in Support of Prop 8. Typepad isn't great at doing tables, but here goes:
Carolyn Schramm $200 Charlotte N/A Donald Luther $100 Hampstead N/A Hal Abbott $250 Garner Access International Holden Higgenbotham $250 Chapel Hill UNC-CH James Helvey $500 Winston-Salem CMT Asset MGT Jason Yedowitz, Sr $50 Indian Trail Self-employed Judy H. Sherrill $1,000 Hickory N/A Kenneth Purcell $100 Mooresville Hendrick Motorsports Lai Chow Kok $100 Winston-Salem Winston-Salem Cardiology Patrick Donleycott $100 Mebane N/A Richard Rust $100 Chapel Hill N/A anon. $100 Raleigh requested removal Stephen Scribner $100 Pinehurst International Life Science
If you can, do business with their employers, and if you know them, show them some love this Christmas season. Heck, show everyone some love! But thank these folks for standing up for our traditional marriages. It sadly seems that tradition is going out of fashion.
Your blogger isn't one to steal the posts of others without permission, so we urge you to check out "That $800 Billion" by Julie Walsh. She reports that the money didn't just go where it was supposed to go. Much of it went to Paulsen and his buddies.
