Thursday, April 15th is the dreaded tax day. If you cannot make it to Washington for the big Tax Day Tea Party and rally, check out one of many such rallies across the Ole' North State.
The NC chapter of Americans for Prosperity has set up the website: NC Tax Day Tea Party It has a listing of every Tea Party in North Carolina, and they urge you to make it out to one.
Your blogger will be attending the rally at the North Carolina State Capitol since she cannot be in our nation's Capitol.
If your Tax Day Tea Party isn't listed on the site, please contact the AFP to add yours.
Please note that the liberals are just waiting for our side to slip up and do something that they can make news with. For example, they want us to use ugly language, spit on people, or some other dastardly deed, but as conservatives, we will not fall for their traps.
Like in Washington a few weeks back, they will try to infiltrate our rallies by "blending in". However, to this blogger, they will stick out like sore thumbs. They'll be the ones with the video cameras, and without American flags and signs, and their clothes will be bland, rather than red, white, and blue. Watch for them and tread lightly. Be polite yet ignore them. That will frustrate them as they want us to get mad so they can get a "good video" for You Tube.
Have fun and let this blogger know what those liberals try to pull. It's our protest day of the taxes THEY have put on us.
Congressman Mike Pence (R-IN) said on MSNBC Wednesday morning, that the newly passed Obamacare bill will raise taxes so much that people will lose jobs. Additionally, he stated that this will not stand and that the fight is not over!
"We have to stop this continuous growth of government", he continued. "We don't need to answer this with more government and more debt...this is about freedom and the American people will push back hard".

Phyllis Schlafly, president and founder of the conservative grassroots public policy organization Eagle Forum, made the following remarks after the public announcement that formerly pro-life DemocratBart Stupak(D-MI) will cast a "yes" vote for the Senate health care bill. (The bill passed the house Sunday evening and was signed into law on Monday by President Obama.)
"It is naïve for any elected official, especially one who describes himself as ‘pro-life,' to expect that a promise to issue an Executive Order that reasserts the intentions of the Hyde Amendment will be fulfilled by the most pro-abortion president to ever sit in the White House. Perhaps Mr. Stupak and his fellow pro-life Democrats forget that President Obama's first Executive Order was the repeal of the Mexico City Policy to allow for international funding of abortion."
"Not only would an Executive Order be rendered meaningless in the face of Congress passing legislation which actively provides for the massive expansion and funding of abortion services, but anyone who doubts the abortion tsunami which awaits this bill becoming law lives in a fantasy world." "Barack Obama has lined every existing federal agency with the most dedicated pro-abortion ideologues, and we know that he will continue this pattern of pro-abortion appointments when it comes time for him to fill the over-100 bureaucracies created to administer his socialized health care program."
"Any formerly pro-life Democrat who voted ‘Yes' on the Senate health care bill tonight will be forever remembered as being among the deciding votes which facilitated the largest expansion of abortion services since Roe v. Wade."
"Mr. Stupak and his Democrat followers have now clarified that you cannot be pro-life and be a Democrat. If abortion was truly their biggest issue, they wouldn't willfully align themselves with the Party of Death."
"This vote has exposed the myth of the ‘pro-life Democrat.' With this single vote, the Democratic Party has divided our nation into the Democrat Party of Death and the Republican Party of Life, and future elections will never be the same."
North Carolina's own Dallas Woodhouse, made a short but powerful speech on Capitol Hill, Saturday. Dallas is president of the North Carolina Chapterof Americans for Prosperity, one of a number of organizations sponsoring the rally, which was aimed at stopping passage of Obamacare, known to liberals as health care reform.
It was an exciting, though L O N G day for this blogger, but well worth the trip. More posts and videos coming soon, so keep checking this space. We are uploading them as fast as time allows.
On Saturday, your blogger, along with hundreds of others from North Carolina, and thousands from across the nation, loaded up on buses, planes, trains, and automobiles, and made our collective ways to our nation's Capitol. It was the most beautiful day we had seen all year and the weather there was much better than it was in Raleigh, KCC later discovered.
KCC's Live Posts on Twitter
Because your blogger had to carry everything she brought, she could not live blog the event from her laptop. Thus, she posted updates on her Twitter site. Go here to read them.
You do not need to have a Twitter account to read them. Just scroll back to Saturday's posts to see what KCC wrote and thought. KCC's twitter account is not quite as "family friendly" as is her blog. :-)
North Carolinians Storm the Capitol
For a small fee of $25, North Carolineans could ride one of about ten buses that were organized by the NC Chapter of Americans for Prosperity. From Raleigh, the trip was relatively quick and our group arrived precisely at noon at the South Lawn of the Capitol. Already, speakers were rousing the crowd and masses were gathering.
Buses departed fromevery part of the Ole' North State and were ready to rally. People made phone calls on the way, and were advised as to the polite way to get their points across to opposing Members of Congress.
Lamestream Media Says "Don't Come into Washington"
What should NOT have amazed this blogger, was that the "lamestream" media was actually telling people NOT to come into the District. The traffic was too bad, they stated. They did their best to keep our numbers down, but it did not work.
Indeed there were numerous rallies going on that day. The Communist Party USA was supposed to be rallying somewhere, and an anti-war group took over Lafayette Square, across from the White House.
Your blogger stood beside a retired New York City police captain for a few minutes. He was well-versed in crowd counting and estimated the group to be between 65,000 - 70,000. Meanwhile, the "lamestream" media was calling the crowd at only 1,500 - 2,000. They were declaring that Americans were happy with the bill and wanted it to pass. Even MSNBC disagreed and declared that 60% of Americans were unhappy with the bill. Your blogger is certain that MSNBC vastly low balled the number, but they were right that most Americans opposed this bill.
Much more on this rally coming soon. Watch this space for updates!
EDITOR'S NOTES: KCC also took videos of some of events of the day.
More on the Communist Party later. Let's just say they were not quite who they said they were.
Chris Marie Farr, grassroots director of the NC AFP told riders of one of the Raleigh buses, that she had no idea what was actually going on, as she'd been buried in logistics in getting people together for 48 straight hours!
Kudos to Chris and the entire NC AFP team! God bless them in what they do. They don't get rich and it's a labor of love for them. Give this group a donation. Help them out. Any amount helps! DONATE TO NC AFP.

It's time to RALLY. This time, the Americans for Prosperity, with other groups, is leading the charge to Capital Hill to let our Members of Congress know exactly where we stand bill ironically known as OBAMACARE. It's ironic because, this blogger feels as if Obama does not care.
KCC is signed up to be on the Raleigh bus, and hopes people across the Ole' North State will join her in this adventure. The official announcement from the NC AFP is below and get your tickets as early today as possible.

Democratic leaders are considering perhaps their most gutless move yet: a bill with unpopularity matched only by its high cost could become law without even requiring House members to vote for it! We must get back to Washington to fight this most recent assault on the American people and our system of government.
Simply put this bill is a disaster that will raise taxes, cost jobs and destroy the best healthcare system in the world. We need to take the U.S. Capital by storm, and make our voices heard!

In a Friday press release, North Carolina's Senate Republican Leader, Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) urged our Governor to follow the Virginia State Senate in supporting offshore drilling for oil and gas so that Virginia would not get ahead of NC in job creation.
In a letter he wrote to Gov. Beverly Perdue (D-Chapel Hill/Trent Woods-outside of New Bern), he urged her to:
"'take the necessary steps to ensure that North Carolina is not outpaced by Virginia when it comes to offshore oil and gas exploration and the new industry and jobs that could bring to our state."
Perdue said in pre-election debates, that she favors drilling only in "existing tracks" which are basically in the Gulf of Mexico and are far away from North Carolina and wouldn't help NC job seekers.
During the 1998 RNC National Convention, the popular call became "Drill, Baby, Drill". That has since been printed on lapel pins and bumper stickers, nationwide.
EDITOR'S NOTE: Your blogger has a cousin who worked on offshore oil platforms in Louisiana for years. He would work for a certain amount of time on, then fly home for two weeks off, so he could rest and have time with his wife and family.
The work is hard, the hours are tough, but the pay is extremely high for a blue collar job. It allowed this man to take good care of his family, and save for a good retirement, if he wanted.
Former Attorney General John Ashcroft (left, photo by Ryan J. Reilly) won the Defender of the Constitution Award Friday afternoon at this year's CPAC, right before a panel discussion, called Does Security Trump Freedom?
Moderated by the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLU) Chief Counsel Dr. Jay Sekulow, panelists included former Congressman Bob Barr, California Representative Dan Lungren, former Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore, and Georgetown University Law Professor Viet Dinh.
Barr (right, with Dinh, courtesy Washington Post) noted that when he speaks in Britain, folks there, especially their college kids, tell him that they wish the UK had a written constitution like we do. Barr maintained that Ronald Reagan would oppose any legislation that puts security over freedom.
Barr prefers civilian trials for terrorists, and considers waterboarding to be torture. I must note he had a large Libertarian cheering section in the audience, made up of mostly 18-23 year old college kids, imported in on buses. The group was known as "Campaign for Liberty" and was working hard to raise money. They even had a pep rally Friday evening, in a large private room, behind closed doors.
Rep. Dan Lungrennoted that as California Governor, Reagan supported tough anti-crime measures to preserve domestic security. Lungren argued that you can't have freedom without having to have security. He maintained Al Qaeda and its allies don't hate us because of Guantanamo Bay. They hate us because of the Statue of Liberty.
Lungren, opposing Barr, believes (as I do) that foreign terrorists should be tried by military tribunals instead of civilian jury trials. He supports waterboarding, and agrees with Katy and me in that "we must prevent another 9/11-style atrocity to prevent an inevitable backlash against indivdual freedom". He persuasively maintained that the Constitution allows us to defend ourselves. " It's not a suicide pact".
Jim Gilmore, now President and CEO of the Free Congress Foundation, opposed the federal stimulus bills and auto/bank bailouts, considering them an overreach by government. However, he supports wiretaps and government eavesdropping when necessary, including those measures as laid out in the Patriot Act, as long as they are supported by judicial revew.
He opposes the government logging/tracking your Internet usage without judicial fiat. Gilmore thinks terrorists captured on foreign battlefields should receive military tribunals, but that terrorists caught on US soil should have civilian trials. He believes the Patriot Act has been effective.
Viet Dinh had served as Assistant Attorney General from 2001-2003 during the Bush administration. Born in Saigon in 1968 (in the same city I was, and one year later), Dinh managed to escape communist Vietnam and flee to America in 1978.
Dinh maintains the Patriot Act has been very successful. That's why the Act continues to be renewed. Dinh agrees that the purpose of government is freedom, not security. However, security is a needed condition to achieve freedom. Dinh asked "What is freedom? Unbridled individuality? No. It's structured liberty that achieves virtue."
He offered a brilliant analysis about how actions have consequences. Dinh insists US laws support using military commissions to try terrorists, who are akin to war criminals. Dinh said America's great gifts to the world are our institutions and principles. He related global Jihadist terrorism as today's overarching threat against freedom, like Nazism used to be in the first half of the last century.
John Ashcroft then said our Founding Fathers would be pleased by this civil, intelligent, and transparent debate. He noted how the US government tried and hanged Nazi spies who were US citizens, during WWII, via closed military tribunals. Ashcroft argued that our anti-terror laws need to be clear so that the government knows how to properly and legally keep us safe.

Was there a preacher in the house? There had to be, but that voice, it was unmistakably that of TV personality Glenn Beck.
The popular Fox News host started by saying how Rush Limbaugh and Ronald Reagan are his personal heroes.
He admired Reagan's optimism. Like Reagan, Beck believes "it's still morning in America", though, he said, we may have to wake up with a hangover puking in the toilet first.
He warned that progressivism "is the cancer eating up America, and that it unfortunately not only infects the Democrat Party, but many Republicans as well."
Beck even condemned President Theodore Roosevelt (who I admire) as an early progressive. Beck argued:
"it's not enough for Republicans to just suck less than the other side. The GOP must admit its mistakes (an addiction to spending and big government) and reform itself".
He compared the GOP's failings to those of golfer Tiger Woods. Beck asserted that, like Woods, all addicts will continue their behavior as long as they do not get caught.
He then asked the same question everyone has been asking Woods, to the GOP: "You got caught! Are you sorry?"
Beck says he'd be more than happy to support the Republican Party if they only admitted their mistakes and showed genuine contrition. He wants them to do honest soul searching.
Then Beck noted that progressives are a political minority in this country, yet they keep advancing their agenda. How? Because they know how to package and sell their ideas. They've got Hollywood's help, too.
Beck stated that we have a right to fail.
Without failure, how do we learn and grow and improve? Why should a company be "to big to fail", so that it gets a taxpayer-funded bailout?
Beck cited his own battle to overcome alcoholism and the long way back. . He asserted conservatives believe everybody has the right to *pursue* happiness or success, not to be given happiness or success by the government. He insisted you don't have a right to free food, free housing, free higher education, or free medical care. You have to work for it and earn it.
Beck noted he couldn't afford to attend college, so he educated himself. He said there's no shame in being a self-made man, in showing ambition and working hard to become successful, so government shouldn't punish small businesses for working hard to be successful. Beck reminded the Marriott Ballroom crowd that business creates jobs, not the government.
Beck ended his sermon by promising that the future is not cast in stone. Our best days are not behind us. Our grandchildren do not have to have a lower standard of living than we have.
Watch Glenn's speech, as he delivered it on Saturday evening:
Editor's Note: This post, like all others at CPAC, was brought to you by our sponsor, RedState. RedState provided the Blogger's room and gave KCC the ability to cover the conference in a unique way. Not every blogger who applied received credentials, yet there were over 100 different conservative blogs represented, with a few liberals amongst us, as well. We all had a great time, and many thanks go to our fearless leader, Erick.
Liz Cheney, the brilliant daughter of former Vice-President Dick Cheney and Co-Founder of Keep America Safe, was introduced by ACU & CPAC Chairman David Keene. Unfortunately, I had to leave her midday Thursday speech prematurely.
I did get to hear her lambaste President BarackObama, though. Liz said that "experts" had predicted the death of the conservative movement after the brutal 2008 elections. They were wrong. Scott Brown's win in Massachusetts shocked and frightened Obama and the Democrats, who had misjudged America's tolerance for socialist politics.
Liz decried how Obama did not govern from the center, as many people naively thought he would. Instead he raises taxes to pay for nationalized healthcare. He does not believe in American exceptionalism. Instead he traveled the world to apologize for America's perceived "transgressions." He even incredibly wants to give foreign terrorists the same constitutional rights as US citizens.
Later, Liz surprised the audience by introducing her father. Vice-President Dick Cheney, who I wish had been our former *President*, spoke briefly to a delighted audience. The senior Cheney earned a standing ovation by predicting 2010 would be a great year for Conservatives, and that Obama would be a one-term President. He even received such an ovation just for entering the room.

What we need to do is a movement is spend a lot of time on college campuses and with young professionals and get these people involved, stated Josh Mandel, a young attorney, Marine Corp veteran, and Ohio state house representative. From the Cleveland area, Mandell is used to running against Democrats.
Young Mandell's state legislative district is stacked against him: Two to one Democrat to Republican, yet they re-elected him with over 70 percent of the vote! This was despite the fact theDennis Kuninich is his Representative in Congress.
How? Mandell organized and reached out to these Democrats and explained that for reasons of economic freedom and peace throu strength, they should be voting for Republicans. He did it though old fashioned shoe leather, much like Patrick McHenry did in our own state. It's the old fashioned way, but voters appreciate being able to touch the candidate and feel like he's one of them.
Because it's such hard work, most candidates hate it, but not Mandell. In 2010, he's running for Ohio Treasurer and this blogger thinks he will make it. Go Josh!
Josh's Tips for Young People Entering Politics:
Don't follow the leader. Don't blindely follow. Stand on own principles, and don't be told to "wait your turn".
Don't ever be out worked. When he fought in Iraq, he learned what hard work was. He wore out pairs of shoes knocking on doors, which he hung up in the state house, instead of nice of the Browns or the Indians

The long, saga of Wake County's Chris Mintz (left) is over. Mintz, a former Republican, switched to the Democrat party due to his own, sorry political ambitions.
Your blogger first met Mintz when he was a college student at North Carolina State University and we lived in the same precinct.
Since Raleigh's downtown 01-06 literally had only 96 registered Republicans at the time, the eight of us who came to a precinct meeting in KCC's landlord's living room, agreed to split up precinct leadership with Mintz, taking the chairmanship and your blogger agreeing to be secretary.
Two years later, your blogger was awakened early one morning by an upset party activist and donor. "I cannot get in touch with Chris Mintz", whaled Olga Santo-Tomas, a Cuban American, and supporter of then-Mayor Tom Fetzer. She and her family had fled the Castro "revolution" and she has the highest respect from this blogger.
After searching high and low, Senora Tomas and I realized that Mintz was not reliable nor reachable.
Fast forward fifteen years. Mintz was now president of the Wake County Republican Men's Club. KCC thought at the time, "I wish I could have warned them." According to Under The Dome, the News and Observer's political blog, Mintz switched to the Democrat Party in 2005. He wanted to run against against conservative stalwart Rep. Russell Capps (below, right) but lost in the primary to Ty Harrell, (left) who sadly defeated Capps in the general election. Harrell resigned last year due to ethics issues with his campaign expenditures.
Capps founder of the Wake County Taxpayers Association, originally was elected in a "safe" Republican district, had been slowly been gerrymandered by the state Democrat leaders into a "swing" district and Democrats were now willing to take him on.
Dome reports that he was accused last July by federal prosecutors of taking more than $1 million from two elderly clients, via his position as an investment advisor. Mintz is scheduled to serve four years. Let's hope he serves every single day of his sentence. Your blogger does not believe in getting one day cut off of a sentence for each day of "good behavior".
Editor's Note: Your blogger has the highest respect for former Rep. Russell Capps. She first met him in 1992 in a parking lot in Raleigh, when he was campaigning against a convention center that was voted down by the public.
He started a grassroots movement that stopped the wasteful spending project and gave rise to the Wake County Taxpayers Association. He was then elected to the State House and became a champion for taxpayers statewide.
Repeating a situation that plagued the state’s taxpayers last year, officials with the North Carolina Department of Revenue have already announced that individuals filing their taxes can expect delays in receiving their refunds.
“Revenue Secretary Kenneth Lay told The Associated Press on Friday his agency is delaying refund checks for individuals and businesses. It's all part of the state's effort to manage cash while its tax collections remain anemic.” (“State says expect delays on tax refunds,” WRAL.com, 2/12/10)
Officials at the N.C. Department of Revenue have long known about slow tax collections and the effect on state fund balances. Yet, Governor (Beverly) Perdue and Secretary Lay have not taken effective steps so that taxpayers do not face unreasonable delays in receiving tax refunds from state government. Many of the taxpayers owed refunds are small businesses struggling to meet payrolls, and the delay in paying refunds may actually cause additional job losses in the private sector.
Senate Republican LeaderPhil Berger(R-Rockingham, above left) made the following statement:
“A second consecutive year of taxpayers facing unreasonable delays in receiving their refunds demonstrates two things about the Perdue Administration. The first is a continuation of the incompetence and mismanagement all too evident in the Easley administration. For too long, Democrats, in complete control of the legislature and the Governor’s office, have not been held accountable for their lack of competence in managing the state’s fiscal affairs.
“The second is a mindset that plagues Democrats in Raleigh and in Washington - that money collected, or over-collected, as tax revenue belongs to the government and not the taxpayer. But this is the taxpayers’ money, particularly that money to be refunded, and the only reason the government has it now is because they collected more than they should have. The money should be returned to taxpayers promptly.”
The winners in the straw poll held February 6th, at the Cumberland County GOP Ronald Reagan Republican Roundup, were 8th congressional district candidate Lou Huddleston, 7th district candidate Will Breazeale, 2nd congressional district candidate Renee Ellmers and Governor and former Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin. Huddleston, Breazeale and Ellmers won their district vote and Palin was the choice of attendees for the 2012 presidential race.
Other congressional candidates attending the event which drew over 300 people and included speeches by former Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory and Senator Richard Burr, were newly announced 2nd district congressional candidate Todd Gailas; newly announced 7th congressional district candidates Tim Wilkes and Ilario Pantano; and 8th congressional district candidates Tim D'Annunzio, Harold Johnson and Hal Jordan.
Local and General Assembly GOP candidates also were in attendance, to include N.C. Senate 22 candidate Wesley Meredith, N.C. Senate 21 candidate Wade Fowler, N.C. State House 44 candidates Brian Kent and Johnny Dawkins, N.C. State House 22 candidate John Szoka, N.C. State House 45 candidate Jackie Warner and County commissioner At-Large candidates Diane Wheatley and Linda Devore.
From the files of "You've-Got-a-Lot-of-Nerve, Just-Who-The-Heck-Do-You-Think-You-Are?", State Rep. Bill Owens(D-Pasquotank) recently asked the administration of Elizabeth City State University to change its name.
Business North Carolina reported in their February 2010 issue that Owens assumed that such a name change would better "reflect the school's ties to the UNC System."
But alumni wanted to keep the old name to reflect the school's heritage as a historically black university, the magazine reported.
Shame on you Representative Owens. This is another example of an arrogant elected official. Clearly he thinks he knows better than everyone else.
Hat Tip: Business North Carolina magazine
Editor's Note: Your blogger has been through a similar scenario and can relate to those at ECSU. Shortly after KCC's graduation from Meredith College, it was proposed that the school change it's name to Meredith University to potentially attract more students. Alumna and students, being creatures of tradition, voted 'absolutely not'.
It appears that the students and alumni of Elizabeth City State University don't appreciate the intrusion by an elected official who feels he can over-step his boundaries.
This morning, Tom Fetzer, chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party, called for the resignation of two major figures in Governor Beverly Perdue's administration.
During her campaign, Perdue promised to transform state government and make it transparent. Clearly, that hasn't happened (pun intended.) In short, Fetzer wants the NC Governor to clean up state Government or be prepared to face the consequences (at election time).
A copy of the press release from the NC GOP follows:
NCGOP Chairman Tom Fetzer today called on Governor Bev Perdue to remove from their positions Alvin Keller, Secretary of the Department of Corrections, and Reuben Young, Secretary of the Department of Crime Control and Public Safety. Fetzer also called on Perdue to convene a panel of journalists to determine barriers to access to public records and have those barriers lifted immediately.
Fetzer referenced Young’s time serving as former Governor Mike Easley’s Chief Legal Council, saying that Young failed to properly investigate claims that the Governor’s office instructed employees to delete emails. Fetzer charged that “Young either orchestrated the cover-up or observed it with a casual indifference.”
Fetzer also noted Young’s inclusion in the recent Ruffin Poole indictment, where Young failed to properly investigate the Easley staffer about being taken on a private jet to New Orleans for a bachelor party thrown by an Easley supporter. Fetzer said Young is a “holdover from the incompetence and corruption of the Easley administration” and that Perdue should dismiss him from his current post immediately.
Fetzer outlined Keller’s lack of results as the head of Corrections, including his poor handling of problems surrounding the state’s probation system. Keller had made filling vacancies of parole officers his #1 priority; but the number of parole officers actually went down during his tenure. Recently, Keller has refused media requests to release records showing the details of supervision of those out on probation and backpedaled on his ordered to release prisoners who were sentenced to life in prison.
According to Fetzer, a lack of internal checks and balances has left it to the media and private “watchdog” groups to uncover corruption in state government. Fetzer said he believed even more problems would be discovered if access to public records was easier. He proposed that the Governor put together a panel of journalist and members of concerned citizens groups to identify the obstacles that stand in the way of access to public records.
“The governor should listen to common sense recommendations from those who know what the obstacles are and then, using whatever is within her power as Governor, implement reform by executive order.”
“Bev Purdue has called herself the ‘Education Governor’ and then promptly signed a budget that slashed education. She called herself the ‘Jobs Governor’ when unemployment increased on her watch. It’s time ‘Business as Usual Bev’ started backing up her rhetoric when it comes to ethics and transparency,” Fetzer concluded.

Congressman Brad Miller (D-NC-13th) is the pride of the liberal wing of the NC Democrat party, but the bane of this blogger's existence. He has caused the people of this district many problems and has never found a tax hike he hasn't liked.
Aside from voting for every issue Nancy Pelosi has asked, he's now in trouble in a VA case in Pennsylvania.
Andrew Breitbart is a professional blogger, with a fine staff and a full stable of blogs. KCC considers him a personal hero. Over the weekend, he introduced former Governor Sarah Palin (R-Alaska) at the Tea Party Convention in Nashville, TN.
Brad Miller is the only "representative" that the North Carolina's 13th Congressional District has ever had and It's time we turned him out of office.
Turns out, there are at least three trying to do just that. Publisher/Editor Bernie Reeves recently jumped into the Republican primary, joining Navy vet and businessman Bill Randall. Businessman Dan Huffman also is in the race.
KCC will write more on this race later. Meanwhile, please click on http://www.ncgop13.org/ and donate to the 13th GOP Congressional District. This group is charged with bringing Congressman Miller back home to Raleigh and they need your help to do it. Any amount is appreciated and you can donate via the website. Please help. (Sorry, but your contributions are not tax deductible.)
Editor's Note: Your blogger is a member of the North Carolina Republican Party's State Executive Committee, representing the 13th District, at-large. Additionally, she serves as treasurer for that group. It is the only official post she holds within the Party. The 13th District needs all the help it can get to help defeat Brad Miller in the Fall. It is an all-volunteer organization.
On Monday, President Barack Obama released his fiscal year 2011 budget.
The President’s budget more than doubles the debt, drives spending to a new record of $3.8 trillion in FY 2011, pushes the deficit to a new record of $1.6 trillion in FY 2010, and raises taxes by over $2 trillion through 2020, by the Administration’s own estimates. If this weren't the taxpayers' money, this would be laughable.
Congressman Jeb Henlarsing (R-Texas, left) decided, as did Peter Finch in the 1976 movie "Network", that he's mad as hell and can't take it anymore! (Figuratively, of course).
When Obama first took office, he told the American taxpayers that we needed to pass the "porkulus" bill or unemployment would grow past 8%. He also assured Americans that if Congress passed the bill, unemployment would stay below 8%.
Naturally, Obama's Democrat Congress passed the bill and and unemployment is over 10% yet he claims he averted a worse catastrophe.
KCC feels sure that our own NC Members of Congress will be weighing in on the budget soon, and we look forward to hearing from them.
Meanwhile, here is the text to Congressman Henlarsing's press release:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 1, 2010
President Obama Finally Answers Hensarling’s Budget Question:
“Mr. President, will that new budget, like your old budget, triple the national debt and continue to take us down the path of increasing the cost of government to almost 25% of our economy?”
Upon the release today of his record breaking $3.8 trillion fiscal year 2011 budget, President Barack Obama finally answered the question posed to him by Congressman Jeb Hensarling, a question the President declined to answer during the Friday, January 29 House Republican retreat: “Mr. President, will that new budget, like your old budget, triple the national debt and continue to take us down the path of increasing the cost of government to almost 25 percent of our economy?” To view budget documents go to http://www.house.gov/budget_republicans/
Hensarling said, “Although it came 72 hours after I posed this very important question to the President, the American taxpayers and I finally have an answer to the simple question I asked him on Friday. The answer is YES. The president released a 10-year budget today that will triple the national debt, and keep government spending on a path that equals as much as 25% of the entire U.S. economy. This budget sends a clear signal to American taxpayers who are tired of the spending, deficits and bailouts – and who recognize that they are not working – that the President is taking the policies they have rejected to a new high. This is clear evidence that the President is ignoring the will of the American taxpayers who want Washington to go on a diet.” (photo above, left)
“As is often the case, particularly in budget matters, I find myself agreeing with 80% of what the President says and disagreeing with 80% of what he does. While the President’s budget rhetoric gives a nod to reducing the deficit, and his budget document recognizes the unsustainable trajectory of the deficits, it assumes this problem will be solved by an as yet unknown “fiscal commission,” (page 146 summary tables) a proposal already defeated by Senate Democrats.”
“Likewise, his purported spending freeze is not really a freeze because it exempts 83% of the federal budget from the freezer, does not turn on the freezer until next year and then turns off the freezer shortly thereafter. In the same document that President Obama tells the nation he’s committed to fiscal responsibility, he unveils trillions in NEW taxes and entitlements. This makes it very hard to take President Obama’s newfound commitment to fiscal responsibility seriously.”
“Unfortunately, instead of signaling a change in the weather I’m afraid the President’s budget signals that the looming storm clouds of Obamanomics are here to stay. For the duration of the Administration’s 10-year budget, the deficit never falls below $700 billion, and never falls below 3.6 percent of GDP – a level the Administration’s own budget director has called ‘unsustainable.’ Debt held by the public triples over 10 years, and exceeds 60 percent of GDP as a share of the economy this year – surpassing last year’s 50-year high. Debt continues to rise to consume 77.2 percent of our economy by the end of the budget window. Couple this budget with the threatened takeover of our health care system, a threatened energy tax and the threatened makeover of our financial system and it is little wonder that job growth is lagging and that private capital and entrepreneurs are sitting on the sidelines – who would take the risk to start or expand a business in this climate?”
“Democrats in Congress have had the Constitutional power of the purse for three years. In the 12 years that Republicans controlled the House, the average deficit was $104 billion. In just three years under Democratic control, the average deficit is now almost $1.1 trillion. I suspect that as the Democratic majority in Congress works its will on the President’s budget it will only get worse.”
“I have great respect for President Obama, and I appreciate his willingness to come to our retreat, but last Friday he missed an opportunity to show real leadership and join Republican efforts to reign-in the spending. Instead of being straight with the American people about his plans to take nearly one out of every four dollars they earn, he chose to change the subject. He could have told the American people he planned to continue on a path to tripling the national debt and increasing government spending to 25.1% of the economy and he could have explained why he thought that was good policy. He chose not to take that opportunity. Over the next few weeks the House Budget Committee will hold hearings on the budget, I look forward to a serious and honest debate about the trajectory of this administration’s spending and the damage it is doing to our national well-being.”
