From $40M For One Special Interest to $60M for Several
Last night our General Assembly avoided a historic override of Gov. Mike Easley's veto...crafting instead a new corporate incentives program worth up to $60 million, according to the Charlotte Observer.
Many at the legislature felt that both Goodyear and rival Bridgestone Firestone would line up for the money.
"Tomorrow morning, every CEO in the state will hire lobbyists instead of engineers", Paul Stam (R-Wake) told the media.
Former Supreme Court Justice Bob Orr told the media that yesterday's compromise "proves the fallacy of the argument for incentives". This "takes a terrible piece of legislation and makes it worse," Orr stated.
